atm im running a q9450 @3.6 ghz with 4 gigs of 1066mhz ddr2 ram with a ati radeon 4890hd .. im tempted to upgrade but im unsure if i would get any real performance gains from upgrading the cpu?

i game at 1920 x 1080, is my graphics card still adequate for most games out atm?

The only thing I would even consider changing is the graphics card but only you can answer the question as its your set up. If its not coping under the settings you want to game at then its time to change something or drop the settings but I definitely wouldnt change your main board RAM and CPU theres just no need

Well there you go you've answered your own question.

Just upgrade your graphics card to something a bit more current and see how it goes.

i wouldnt suggest upgradeing anything else either as your current platform is extremely adequate for anyones needs. wait for something that is a significant gain.

If you want a bit more speed in the mean time obviously graphics and if you want general speed upgrade to run OS and favorite games off a SSD

I wouldn't upgrade anything. GTA IV is quite CPU intensive so the GPU wouldn't help there, the 4890 is good anyway, is it a 1gb card? as that would help at the high res you game at.

In that case I wouldn't really bother with changing it. As for curing the upgrade itch, another 4890, SSD, new case ect? I would leave the CPU, Mobo, RAM until Sandybridge unless you do lots of encoding.

I wouldn't go by GTAIV for performance. It really isn't optimised much at all. Your current hardware looks fine to me and if it handles pretty much everything, there isn't much point in upgrading!

ive an antec 902 atm so i dont need to upgrade the case as for another 4890 i would like to buy i dont have an crossfire motherboard, i think ill leave it as it is until the new intels come out or go down the route of the hex core phenom
