Evening All

My mobo and processor are getting on for a few years old now and i'm starting to get the upgrade urge.

I've only really had performance issues in X3TC (crowded sectors) and Stalker COP (occasional stuttering), but im not convinced these are not game bugs.

Can anyone advise where my current sys sits in the current food chain vs Ath II, Phen II & i3,i5 and the newer C2d and C2q (ie the Q8xxx & Q9xxx). My question would be how much performance will be gained on poorly threaded games. Also i assume little would be gained by getting a q6xxx unless it was a great clocker.

If there are gains to be had on single thread games then which way is the way to?

newer 775 chips look expensive compared with the alternatives, A 955 combo looked to come in just above £300, a i5 more expensive still. I would consider 2nd hand.

From what i have read thus far people are not expecting bulldozer to work on AM3. Considering this and intels fondness for changing chipset every few years it doesnt look to me like a great time to buy with an upgrade path in mind.

All suggestions welcome and appreciated.

I would be tempted by a E8400, on a P35 board like yours I hear wonderful things.

But if its gaming you want then a AMD Phenom II X4 955 and motherboard of choice with some ddr3 would be my advice.

for that £300 would do the job just like you said.

gpu is a 5770 1gb.

was about the best i could afford at the time, i might xfire in future so that would influence any board decision.
