To wait it out of not - new PSU advice.

As I have 3 months ish or more to build, am I better off waiting for the ATX 3.0, I got the gist that if you buy a decent PSU to start there will be likely be cables you can get after for the new pin layout? So not necessarily any point paying more for one. For context, was going to get a 1k Plat for a watercooled AM4 setup with a 4080/90.

PSU with memory another example of something I never really understood the benefit of (aside from having watts to spare) and modular is easy to build with and gold+ is good.

There will definately be adapter cables for new gpu's just take a look at Nvidia fe, that came with 12 pin to 2x 8 pin adapter.
 
As bills are getting higher I'll buy a platinum plus psu to help out with the bills.

It's a question of doing the maths really.. If the plat plus version is twice the price of the gold version then you have to offset that against projected electricity prices over say the next ten years.

And that will involve some projection and guess work.

But it's not even that simple.. It depends on your PC usage.. If you only spend 10 percent of your time gaming and the rest watching videos or surfing the Internet then you want a PSU that's super efficient at very low loads and not nesesarily super efficient at 75 percent capacity.

Especially if your buying a 850w or 1kw PSU.

GN covered a 3000 watt PC and said that the PSU in it had to be the highest efficiency because a consumer platform would save maybe 14 watts at full load but this would save a lot more as it's very power hungry.

You could probably save more money by moving to very low wattage lightbulbs.
