To Wii or not to Wii that is the question!

Having played on a Wii I can say i wasn't too impressed. The controller doesn't really 'add' anything to the gameplay and it's more of a novelty, but I'm sure some devs will make better use of the controller.

Its like £100 cheaper and you get a game with it??? Having said that I have a 360 so don't need to worry!

I meant, if you get a wii, 1 proper game (sorry, wii sports looks like small mini games to me ) and an extra control set, it comes to £265.

And now the 360 prem pack now includes 2 wireless controllers + game for £300, it makes my choice harder :)

People here seemed to forgot that Wii has built-in wireless function!

Xbox 360 doesn't have one, you need to have a ethernet socket/cable to your living room which is inpractical for my home...or you have to add £50-£60 for official wireless adaptor. Cheaper 3rd-party ones are said to be less reliable than Microsoft one.

Thats when you realised £179 is such a great price! PS3 has one, no wonder why it commands high price tag.

Wired is generally better and faster for gaming though.

Maybe if you're playing FPS games and are really bothered about a couple MS difference in ping, that's it.

It really doesn't make that much difference.

It's fine for PC in office or small room where cable is tucked away/hidden but I can't image having a grey ethernet cable laying about in living room or bedroom!

It doesn't really make much difference, a few ms, the bandwidth difference certainly won't be a problem given that most games only use a few kp/s, let alone the mb/s that even a slow wireless connection allows:)

it's also i beleive going to have the option of a wired nic connection for those that want it, but i suspect the wireless option is going to be the one most people would prefer these days, as it means it can be place near a TV and generally if you've got a wireless router already nothing extra needed (no running of cables etc).

I suspect the wireless is also warranted from a gaming point of view as it will no doubt enable Nintendo to let the Wii connect with DS's for some games (or to let people upload demos to the DS).

I was tempted to pre-order one, but then saw the list of games coming out on the 360 and now I'm torn between the two. The Wii remote looks great (is it really going to be as acurate as the Wii advert implies??) and the sports games that come with it look like short term fun, but it's the lack of great looking other games that worries me. It's games like GTA, PGR, Forza, Test Drive, Halo and of course Live that are pulling me towards the 360.

If those are the types of games you prefer, then a Wii definately won't be for you. Nintendo have always gone for games that will appeal more to children and are generally gimicky, and I very much doubt that the Wii will ever be any different. Comparing the 360 to the Wii is like comparing the PSP to DS - they are totally different consoles with very different play styles.

I've placed my pre-order.

I lost a lot of faith in nintendo with the N64, the gamecube restored some faith, the DS completly restored it.
Call it blind fanboism, but i'm trusting them to do some really fun things with the new control method.

Access to nintendos and segas back catalogue is the icing on the cake.

Lol. My House is already pre-wired for ethernet with 2 ports in all 6 bedrooms and the lounge. We don't have wireless, so i'm going to have to get an ethernet adaptor for my wii....

360 is wired, wii is wireless. People win only dependant on which setup they have in their house. So for me, the fact it doesn't have ethernet increases the cost of a Wii.

Still, i'll be getting one regardless :D

a single friend code system would seem to be a great thing. I don't own a DS but having multiple codes for every game would seem to be rather akward to say the least. one code per console or per account would definately be the best way :)

It is, and whilst I can see their argument (plus doesn't apply to me as I'm the only gamer in my household), for those people with children or students who may 'share' a console, it's a single code per console rather than player.

So that means whilst little Timmy has his friends playing Metroid, as soon as his little sister turns on the console, it won't differentiate the player unlike XBL.
