To Windows 7 or not to Windows 7

Ok I'm going to bite the bullet and buy today.

I'm guessing Home Premium is the one to go for as the only feature I'd really look at in Professional is the XP mode, which I'm not sure I'd need ultimately anyway.

To double check, Retail means I can move the key to other hardware right? And OEM is one time install only (can't move hardware)? The only visable difference is that Retail is £2 cheaper..?

Can anyone confirm for me if SCUMM runs in w7 :p?

Retail = Unlimited hardware changes inc. motherboards. You can transfer the licence to a new machine as long as it's not installed on more than one pc at a time.

OEM = Unlimited hardware changes apart from the motherboard, the licence is tied to the motherboard it was first installed on. Licence cannot be transferred to a new machine.

Windows 7 Editions Chart Comparison

See the chart lower down which compares all editions of Windows 7. For most people (Inc. myself) Home Premium is fine :).

Works fine :).

Yup, retail is the one you want, using Home Premium here, you get 32 and 64bit discs with retail

SCUMMVM will work

Gone from XP (missed ****y Vista out) to Win7 64bit and I love it. Found nothing yet that won't work (I'm even running Rome Total War - 2003) and it's so nice to have a snappy fast desktop.
Gets my thumbs up! :D

I have used Vista from day 1 which was very stable since sp1,so a very good OS,shame some die hard XP users out there that never used it **** it off,Win7 builds on strengths and weakness of Vista, basically Vista is solid OS,Win7 builds with faster speed(especially with old hardware and a few tweaks here and there) remember Win7 is based on Vista with 3 years of further refinement.

Both Vista and Win7 are miles better then XP so you can't go wrong with either IMHO and from my years of using all three, however you are getting a new laptop so might as well have latest OS ie Win7,I'm typing this is on my Win7 laptop.

I hope Win8 improves on Win7 we can only hope :).

Glad some people speak sense, I had exactly the same experience with Vista :).

Talk about impatient! The new car smell hasn't even gone from Windows 7 and you're already waiting for 8? :p

Hehe not really, I like trying new stuff out so always one of the first ones to try new things, same with Linux distro's, so soon as a new version is out its installed by me :).

I know how you feel, I was excited when Windows 7 finally launched after months of using BETA and RC - I could upgrade the other computers in my house. However, the novelty of actually using Windows 7 kinda worn off a little bit.

Spending a few hours messing around with client's ageing XP machines does however show me how much I really do love 7 :D
