toasty HD...

Recently moved from an ATX case to a Shuttle system and I'm a bit concerned with my HD temps.

HD is a Maxtor 250GB SATA Maxline III and the drive temperature is currently a staggering 48oC!!

My case temps are a bit high though (48oC lol!).

I shudder to think how high it was when I was encoding a video file earlier tonight. My P4 was hitting 60-65oC full load for a solid 1 hour and 20 minutes. Imagine what my HD temps were like!

Maxtor website states a max operating temperature of 55oC.

Guess I better start creating an image of the HD every week then!

Try putting your whole system under a massive workload and monitor the temps... assuming they don't go over 55 degrees then you're laughing.

If it does go over, it could be there isn't enough air moving through the case...

Must admit last night my room was pretty warm. Folks ramped up the central heating and my room does get warm.

Even so, I defragged the HD and temps were still around 48oC and didn't move much.

This morning the drive is currently at a more reasonable 40oC.
