Ordered the Kave as I've been toying with the idea for a while... Current cans are an old set of Sennheiser HD 25 SP's that I've had for 10 years+ (done some DJ'ing in my time and these were my starting set) but have wanted a 5.1 set with a good mic for some time... Will report back when I've given them a good blast! (Gabber anyone?)

Kaves are great headsets! It was my headset of choice for years for gaming because the 3D positioning due to the 5.1 is amazing, make sure you accompany them with a good sound card

I got the roccat kave headset last week. The sound quality is astounding. No messing around, just plug and play. I fired up battlefield 3 and it really made it come alive. Every sound produced is satisfying, down to each round firing out of your rifle.

My only gripe is that the head cushions hurt my head after around an hour of use. I think this is down to them being made using leather (?) rather than foam like my previous headset.

Other than that, it is amazing.

Bah! Was hoping for the plantronics 780 headset! :( Maybe tomorrow :p ;)

The roccat kaves do sound and look nice etc. but personally I find them to be quite uncomfortable.

Just a quick note for anyone interested in the Roccat's, mine came today and although I have a dedicated 5.1 soundcard, it will not play surround properly, regardless of any setting I tamper with, granted it's not a high end card, its a Hercules Muse, I have a new one on my "to do" list soon, so this should fix this issue.

So for now I decided to plug into the audio jacks on my Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 motherboard, the 5.1 tests I did now seem great, however.....now it suffers from a constant static/buzzing/whining, more so when I move the mouse, the noise level doesn't increase with volume, so a good dose of "turn it up" eliminates it in game :p.
After a good googling and reading session, it would appear these headsets suffer from this when utilizing the onboard sound.

So my advice would be if you are looking at these for onboard, take what I say into account, go and google first, I appreciate most folks may have a decent dedicated soundcard and in this case, I would imagine it would be hassle free.

:)

The hissing could be do to with the usb volume control.
Try without the usb

And confirm I know this sounds silly, but make sure the sound cables are in the correct place (makes a difference as i found out ;p)

Thanks for that but I gonna live with it till I get my new soundcard, my post was intended as information more than a "looking for help" post.
Cheers.

Noticed this on mine too, but only in the right ear?! I've not used the mic yet (so can't comment, need to get back into VT/TS3!). I will be using a new board/card for these when I upgrade shortly.

As a headset they're great, quite comfortable considering the size and weight of them! The cans ear cushions are good size and my fairly normal sized ears fit within them without any problems (no rubbing/crushed ears). My head is larger than normal (most 'normal' hats are tight!) yet the Roccat has no trouble catering to my oversized melon. The head cushions after a good 3+ hours do get a little uncomfortable - square ridges will be left on your bonce! Especially with very little hair in the area (this problem seems to be getting worse)!...

As for sound setup - very easy to connect, setup and configure (very little needed). The inline volume control and 'equaliser' idea is nice, although I found the volume dial to not be responsive enough - I'm used to hammering the volume controls on my Ducky board instead! The 'one touch' mute button is great! Overall quality of these cans is impressive, even the inline feels sturdy. Cables are a good length and don't tangle easily. Fairly thick too!

Sound clarity is very good, although the bass is very fuzzy and undefined (bear in mind I'm comparing these to my semi 'professional' Sennheisers). No amount of tweaking seems to sort this, although top end is crystal clear. The 5.1 positioning is good - my gaming in BF3 has noticeably improved (from the positioning in certain maps) and is only getting better the more I play (gives you a really unfair advantage in Scavenger)!

OcUK sent these in a HUGE box (bigger than the one used for my 7950)!

Quality: 9/10
Clarity: 8/10
Features: 9/10
Price: 10/10

Overall: 9/10.

Mine also produce this buzzing noise, i found if you move the wire coming out of the control unit it makes it less audible, cant say im overly pleased with the issue.

I'm not using onboard sound so i know thats not the cause, i might contact Roccat and see if it's a known fault, unless someone at overclockers knows the solution or answer to this?

Edit:

They are excellent though, the sound quality is fantastic. They really bring games such as battlefield 3 to life, i didn't realise how poor my previous headset was until i put these on.

And you can't hear the buzzing when in game/listening to music etc that i've noticed.
