Went to click on the 27" and saw it was only 1080P :( Not such a great deal afterall.

It's a great deal for an IPS big brand monitor with great speakers.

1440P decent branded monitors simply don't exist for sub £400 and won't for a long time.

I often think there's a missing niche in the monitor market: Monitors for the middle-aged (and above). I know a lot of people who would really enjoy a monitor like the 27 inch ASUS, precisely because its resolution is low relative to its size. If you use Windows (as opposed to a Mac, I mean) there aren't many genuinely good (as in "working, not bodged and prone to breaking layouts in software") DPI scaling options if your monitor's pixels are too small for your eyesight. Setting a lower-than-native resolution on a monitor, unless it's literally one quarter resolution (which is impractically low, even arguably on a 2560x1600 30 inch monitor), looks like a smudged blurry mess.

So 1080p at 27 inches is a nice option to have. 1080p is plenty of working space for a lot of people, and the size makes the pixel density very tolerable.

I doubt the monitor manufacturers make these monitors for this reason (they just want to shovel 16:9 1080p down our throats as the much-hailed answer to all of life's problems) but it's a happy coincidence that older people can make good use of them. This deal is a good price for a quality IPS monitor.

(I myself have a 2008 Hazro HZ30W, which suits me fine, but which cost me more than two and a half times as much. Each to their own!)

You guys rock I was just going to order that in the new year hoping it would drop from £300 epic saving just placed my order and coming from a dell 2707 with near enough same resolution will be fine for my crappy eyesight :D

Well they should do. And anyway who wants decent branded 1440p, loads of folk are having to jump through hoops to get cheap imports, why are you guys not getting the likes of 'catleaps' ,if thats what they are called, in stock to save folks the hastle. :p

That's not true and is mis-leading customers!!

Yes it is true! Show me a big brand monitor, with 1440P or 1600P, 3yr on-site warranty for sub £400! If they were out there we'd be selling them, but Asus, Dell, NEC, Samsung are all typically above £500

There is Hazro and DGM who offer 1440P screens which are great value, but at the same time they are not a match as a complete package, build quality, warranty wise to the bigger names.

So show me what there is out there for sub £400 and if there is a decent 1440P monitor out there from a decent quality big brand we will source them and sell them.

YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SE 27" LED 2560X1440 WQHD DVI-D Dual Computer Monitor

Answered this already in monitor section, no warranty! We'd have to offer a warranty which would ramp our pricing up to cover any potential warranty cost meaning they'd not be much cheaper than Hazro or DGM. Also a Catleap does not compare to a Dell or Asus quality wise or after support wise.

Yes Gibbo but I think you miss my point. I think there is a market for cheap 1440p, not everyone can afford quality products and are willing to take a chance on something less expensive with less or no warranty. From what I'm reading on the internet plenty of folks are getting these cheap imports anyway (lost uk sales) so are obviously willing to take the chance. I'm sure if you had them in sufficient quantity at the right price they would fly out the door.:)

Since I already had an infraction for listing it before, I'll PM it you instead. It's a Dell U2713HM which I'd regard as a decent brand; UK sourced and none of that Gray import stuff.

Edit - You don't have Trust activated, but I'm sure the majority know the deal. ;)

"Decent" and "big brand" aren't the same thing though.

There are plenty of "decent" 2560x1440 monitors available for sub £400.

Warranty and aftersales support, yeah you've got it right there but you're completely wrong on the quality front. The displays themselves are very high quality, they use the same panels as the Dell 27" ones after all.

By Law Electronic goods must have a 2 year warranty so.... If they sold the cheap imports they would legally have to provide a warranty out of their own pocket....

So yeh...

TBH if you want a cheap 1440p monitor buy the DGM amazing monitor and price.

I can only find refurbs online for sub £400, otherwise they are above £400 everywhere and at DELL they are above £600

Were quite happy to loose those sales, the product though good was not upto quality we'd need and the manufacturer offered zero local support making support on a large scale a true nightmare. As such were happy to give such business a miss as we feel long term it could actually loose us money.

There is a reason DGM and Hazro cost more, because they support and warranty their product locally.
