These companies just don't care about privacy. They pay lip service to it.

The average IT guy isn't going to be able to spot or stop a hacking attack.

Has to be an inside job. Dell above all companies would have sufficient safeguards in place to prevent this very thing.

Someone sacked the wrong person I think.

Whilst I'd agree for smaller companies, or certainly non-tech companies, but Dell is a technology powerhouse. They will have various teams specialising on anything security related for their products so really they have no excuse for this kind of thing happening.

If it's down to "sacking the wrong person" then they don't have sufficient safeguards in place.

These big companies are absolutely abysmal with their security. Dell are actually an IT company too. They need heavy fines to force them to get their act together.

Hmmm, I have bought 2 Dell laptops over the years (though last was like in 2016) and no email from them.

Its outsourcing to certain lands where no one has scruples.

All my virgin media data got sold the day they outsourced their CS off shore.

The problem is the IT people are hamstrung by clueless business people.

In my educational life I focused on IT and Business studies. The calibre of people on the courses was stark.

The business people don't appreciate the importance of cyber security, and I have to say similar, to a lesser degree the IT people these days ie rushing us on to Internet based systems with no backup alternative used to be a cardinal sin in the computing world. These days people either don't care or don't think about it.

I remember when Sony PlayStation Network got attacked a few years ago and it was revealed they only had 1 authentication server for the whole of PSN!
