Today's roast: 8hr roast leg of lamb with gratin dauphinois

All that and then frozen veg?

Absolutely. Using frozen veg doesn't alter the taste of the main event, and I am not a shop...I mean restaurant.

Frozen veg these days is fresher than anything you pick up off the shelf in Tesco, as it's frozen immediately. I recommend at least giving it a try as a very acceptable labour saver.

I know that, but fresh veg really does finish off the meal. Just seems like such a strange thing to do all that and then not just go that little bit extra with some nice steamed, fresh veg.

do love lamb, but i think 8h is overkill and it looks very overcooked to me. Would still eat it in a heartbeat but you know what i mean :O

also i wouldnt cut it id eat it like friar Tuck

Frozen veg is great if you want a quick meal but cooking lamb for 8 hours no harm in steaming some fresh veg for 30 mins, just seems a cop out.

Would have loved it if the lamb was stuffed with garlic chunks and smothered in tomato purée.

Looks fantastic though. Slow cooked meat makes me sex wee. Had some 12 hour shoulder of pork the other week and you could peel bits away with your finger.

Looking forward to a yummy lamb shoulder on Saturday. This time I promise I'll serve it with spinach wilted in butter or steamed broccoli :p.
