Together (Horror)

Cheeky bump as this lands in a couple of weeks in the UK.

Really looking forward to it - although the trailer reveals quite a lot… l hope there is plenty left to enjoy / discover.

Horror is always best blind…! :)

The trailer has been around and played in the cinema for months now… to the point where I remember it. The story beats and general ‘direction / escalation’ are set out plainly, but the ‘glue’ remains a mystery… and hopefully a good one.

Despite seeing it lots, I’m still interested… so no harm in giving it a watch, I guess!

Good, although not quite as ‘deep’ / ‘creative’ as I was hoping.

This film has a solid ‘core’; likeable characters, well acted, set in a well paced story with relatable themes and dialogue that felt ‘genuine’. A lean runtime too, it whizzed by.

Like ‘Weapons’, it ends with a lean into comedy, as if it would just be ‘too silly’ to end without humour. It isn’t as jarring as ‘Weapons’ but, again, I’m not really too sure how I feel about this ‘trend’ in horror films. Otherwise, the humour / banter between the couple felt well judged.

Being more critical, there are at least two heavy nods towards ‘The Thing’, which are so ‘on the nose’ it felt like a lover letter homage, at the expense of film’s own originality. I also think it lingered on some of the ‘practical effects’ a little too much… I prefer it to CGi but just like that, less is more - otherwise it breaks immersion. Yup, I’m watching a film.

Unfortunately, there is also pet peeve of mine that cropped up more than once, which I will dock it half a point for:

Dream sequences… meh. There was some really unsettling imagery that turned out to not be based ‘in the real’ and I always think… what is the point? Either have it reveal backstory, or make it do… something. Not just a random scary face in a dream.

7/10 - well balanced, competently made horror. Hit the spot.

With the lawsuit hanging over this had it on the back burner to watch it however enjoyed it , Alison and Dave played well off each other, granted it's easy to put that across on screen when your actually married.

Was expecting a little 'more' from this with how the trailer was hinting the film to be, thought it would lean heavier into the body horror than it does.

There was a few hints to what was to come but it does leave plenty for you to work out yourself.

Didn't drag or feel like it was getting padded purely for a longer run time.
