My lad wants to buy a Tom Tom. Can you guys help. For the £150 you can get a Tom Tom 1 Vers. 2.
Do you get a years upgrade included, is it worth the £30 to fit or is it easy. Any other advise appreciated.

OcUK do sell TomTom GPS so you can't ask for links as they will be a competitor.

If/when you buy it you will only get software upgrades the mapping data isnt upgraded unless you purchase a new unit/software

OK, I see one on OcUK for £170. Firstly do I assume that you plug it into the cigarette lighter and that powers it up and you remove it on leaving the car. Secondly you don't mean when motorways / roads are created you have to go and buy a new unit, do you? Excuse my ignorance (I'm an old git) and want to buy it for the lad.
More info would be appreciated however basic, please.

AFAIK

Map upgrades.

Occasionally (rarely) TomTom do release a map upgrade at a reduced cost.
Usually it is necessary to buy a new map at full price.
If the unit itself is old, it may be more cost effective to buy a new replacement unit.

Software upgrades.
Incremental releases are usually free. eg v5.1 -> v5.2
Major releases have to be paid for. eg. v5 -> v6

I am looking at the 910 as a refurb somwhere else at £257inc vat, security camera maps etc

Do you think its worth it? over lets say the tom tom one?

Has anybody regretting buying a Tom Tom at that price?

opinions!! :)

I've got a TomTom One , I drive about 30k miles a year to visit clients all over the UK and have never thought "hmm , I wish I'd bought the more expensive units".

Map updates (if you need them ) are about £40 and you can get a speed camera database from PocketGPS for £19 a year. The Traffic alert stuff is a waste of money (IMO) , all it's ever done for me is confirm that I am stuck in a traffic jam :D
