Tomato 1.16 Firmware

Sod it I want to see what this is all about in person so am Installing it over HyperWRT !

:)

i've not tried hyperwrt, but i seriously can't fault tomato

static dhcp
EASY wireless
ad blocking (keyword blocking)
100% stability, the only time since august i've had to unplug(and reboot) it is because we had thunder and lightening, and i didn't want to risk leaving it on :)

Well I've installed it and my router now won't boot :(

Just kidding!

I initially thought "HOLY COMPLICATED LAYOUT BATMAN" but now after browsing the tree structure of the UI it's quite good. I like :D

Edit*

I like the wireless stuff now too:

Nobody names their network anything cool :/

Well so far my compy is getting excellent signal and speed, getting a sustained 2MB/sec during the day now downloading stuff.

My sister's laptop is getting a weaker signal but her room is miles away and she can still surf the net so I don't want to tempt her with a stronger signal and allow her to download music etc all day at full speed!

Does it have any power saving options? I'm after some software/firmware that allows me to automatically shut down the router between specified times.

couldn't tell you

can't imagine the amount of power they use to be that great though

It's more the fact that it turns my living room into a light show, the router seems to make my cable modem permanently active and so all the indicator lights on both devices flash non stop, minor problem but it annoys me :p

Some kind of auto timeout and then wake on lan functions would be a good alternative.

what is this firmware for?? it there a brand of routers called Tomatoe? or can I install it onto my netgear?:o

I would not advise you installing anything on your netgear other than netgear firmware :p

Unless you like a nice white paperweight!

As it happened i finially installed tomato yesterday. going from wrt sp1 i am impressed. feels very slick and stable, a lot of nice features. QoS is working well and has better options, it's only missing snmp and it would be nice to add a couple more graphs in the bandwidth section.

I also haven't managed to get wol working yet but i think that's down to my pc as i formatted at the same time as i upgraded the router firmware

One thing I really like about tomato is the ability to scan neighbouring wifi networks to see who is using what channel and at what strength so you can choose a less populated one :)
