Tomb Raider (2013) mouse stutter problem

I'm having this odd problem in Tomb Raider where my mouse movement in game seems to be a little jerky, a bit like microstutter. The thing is though, the game itself runs perfectly fine and this can clearly be seen when I only use the keyboard to move around, it is perfectly fluid with v-sync enabled. It is only the mouse movements that look stuttery.

Anyone else having this problem? I'm using a Logitech MX518 mouse, GTX780 (327.23 drivers), Win 7 and all game settings maxed out (except AA is set to FXAA). Changing game settings doesn't seem to help and performance is not an issue; with v-sync enabled fps is locked at 60, with it disabled its well above that.

Anyone experience anything similar?

I used to suffer from this all the time. For me, it was the mouse I was using (wireless Logitech MX1000). So that got binned and I got myself a wireless Razer gaming mouse with ultra high 1000Hz polling rate....

......but even plugging in an el cheapo wired mouse out the supermarket should heal your woes, if it is indeed mouse lag which is causing it (sounds like it to me).

Tomb Raider and mouse control....No No No

You need get yourself a xbox360 gamepad for games like this...;)

Yup, seems to be like this with an increasing amount of console ported games these days. Anything that is something other than a conventional shooter is played better with gamepad these days. This is also a good thing imo, as for single player gaming, I much prefer to be sitting back in chair than leaning over mouse n keyboard.

Plays ok on keyboard and mouse, would play perfect if they'd taken the time to implement proper strafe movement normally as you get when aiming, only about 3% of the game actually plays better on a controller.

(PS If people want to play it on a controller thats their preference).

Sigh ... all the comments regarding pads are irrelevant. That is not the solution I'm looking for!

Anyway, I tried the only other mouse I have, a Logitech Anywhere MX and I get the same issue. I should also point out that I don't get the stuttering in any other games, at least not to the degree I'm seeing in Tomb Raider. Here is what I've found with some games I've just tried (v-sync enabled in all games):

- Crysis 2 it is perfectly smooth. Actually it is a little too smooth, which makes me think that some mouse movement smoothing is going on.

- BF3 is very smooth, just a very slight unevenness to the movement, but probably due to my hand movements not being perfectly smooth.

- L4D2 is smooth with slight momentary hitching. This goes away when I disable v-sync, but I will admit I've had this problem with source engine games for many years, even back when I had a 4870.

- Skyrim is perfectly smooth, but like Crysis 2 I suspect some mouse smoothing is going on.

- Alan Wake is perfectly smooth, but again, I suspect mouse smoothing.

-Metro 2033 is smooth apart from usual stuttering the game always has.

So from what I can see this is a issue specifically with this game. Can anyone else reproduce it?

Are you running the mouse at 1000Hz? IIRC I had to turn mine down to 500Hz for a couple of games including tomb raider or I'd get random jerkiness for some reason so I've left it at 500Hz.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it's at the usual 125hz. I just have my MX518 plugged in using the standard windows driver. I did actually try installing the latest logitech driver earlier, but I still have the same problem.

I'm starting to just put this down to **** developers not getting simple stuff like mouse control and sensitivity done properly. They make such a huge and complex game, but then fall flat on their faces when it comes to something so basic and important.

Have you tried another graphics driver version just incase? I've not tried 327.23 but 326.80 have had the best results for me of recent drivers.

For the love of god, try a wired mouse!

125Mhz polling rate is b******t. That mouse is for grandma to browse the internet and play solitaire with.

No, not every game will be badly affected as different games are made different ways and react to HiD input differently.

My MX518 is wired. I know the 125hz isn't great, but it shouldn't be causing stuttering like this, especially when some games are perfectly smooth. I'm not sure my MX518 has support for 1000hz, but I will check the driver software.

Still smells of poor mouse control implementation by the developer to me.

I will try this, but I'm pretty sure the 320.18 drivers which I had installed last time had the same issue.

That goes without saying, but a good fast responsive mouse would overcome your woes.

I know all about this sort of thing as I suffered from it and it took me ages to realise that I needed to get swap my mouse. It started happening in games in the late 2000's, as consoles became the main focus and all games were designed to respond to gamepad input.

As an aside would avoid the 320.xx drivers they are a bit buggy to say the least.

Strang thing is the 320.18 drivers were flawless for me (as far as I can tell). I only went to the latest WHQL to see if I get better performance. Apart from a few extra 3dmarks I dont notice anything.

I find that the mouse movement isn't the greatest in this game myself. Feels more like input lag than stuttering though. Disabling SSAO (and vsync ofc) seems to help but I just put up with it for the most part though :D
