Tomb Raider : Underworld

Isnt SCi or whoever in debt? and it caused a big delay?

If its anything like Legends im gonna get bonjour to it tbh, glad i only paid £10 for it

I know 3 big people in SCi left which isn't good news for either the game or SCi (who are struggling).
Looking forward to it though, I thought Legend was brilliant.

I thought Tomb Raider : Legend was great as well, im just a little suprised i hadn't come across some information about Underworld before now :o

Because it's still quite early in development really, Tomb Raider isn't a AAA franchise anymore and doesn't interest people to the same level games like Assassins Creed, Bioshock or The Orange Box did, or games like Alan Wake, Metal Gear Solid 4 or Gran Turismo 5 do.

Legend didn't release to a lot of hype and the game was probably better for it.

I'm personally looking forward to this one.

Looks like SCI/Eidos delayed everything until next financial year so that they can get this one out of the way, and hopefully bump up the share price once the games have come out.

In the five weeks since its release the game has sold over 2.6 million units worldwide

pretty impressive.

The headline "Better than expected" says it all though. When Tomb Raider (1) and Tomb Raider 2 were released it was unmatched in terms of hype, the series isn't like that anymore. As I said, it's not like the games I mentioned. Closer to its release we'll hear more, but the overall public demand isn't high enough for the media to be showing us new screenshots or reports daily.

Legend was also helped by the wait since the previous (and completely underwhelming) effort.

What’s really new?

Huge epic stage multi puzzles.

New moves for Lara.

New engine.

New animations as well as contextual animations.

Use objects either as weapons or to aid your advancement.

Slippery poles and environments reaction to the weather.

Lara’s reaction to the environment.

Exert force on grappling hook.

Free climbing.

Game specifically designed for Next Gen consoles. Next generation version worked on separately.

No more medi packs.

Intresting :D

well yeah obviously, but stuff like free climbing, no health packs just made me think they've looked at assassins creed as an influence for a true next gen tomb raider for some reason. Nice to see them stepping away from a finding health pack system. Im glad we're starting to see the back of that.

Tomb Raider would do well to look at Uncharted, Uncharted steals a lot from Tomb Raider but does it all better imo.

I believe the next Uncharted will also have Co-Op (not confirmed but hinted at in an interview with lead dev) - Be nice to have Lara and one of her mates on screen at the same time, double the boobies :D

Tomb Raider has to go the way of Assassins Creed in fairness, it needs to be that free.

I bought and played Tomb Raider Anniversary just after completing Assassin's Creed. Compared to Altair, handling Lara was like handling a shopping trolley with a wonky wheel. They definitely need to look at AC and see what it does well.
