TomTom for Iphone

I've not used it, but have heard it's very expensive for what it is. There's plenty of much cheaper alternatives, although some are utter crap.

You might be as well to ask in the Apple software forum.

Used this a lot of times and I can confirm it is awesome, however I did not pay for it.

Also, I originally had it on my 3gS and had the odd issue with the GPS reciever. This was improved on the iPhone 4 and it works perfectly.

I use it on a daily basis, fantastic bit of software. Expensive, but quick to load, find route and reroute if you miss turnings. I'd certainly recommend it :).

Had it on both my Iphone 3G and my Iphone 4, wouldn't really recommend it on the 3G as it is very slow but works really well on the Iphone 4 very quick.

I use it regularly for work, it's never let me down. Expensive mind and as some people have said there are cheaper alternatives that do the job perfectly well. Depends how much you'll use it

This. I use mine on my phone over the SatNav in my M3... It's awesome and well worth it.

Use it all the time, works 99% of the time but does crash sometimes when clicking "Done" after getting a route compiled. Just restart the app and it works. Once it's running it's perfect!

I've only used Co-Pilot on the iPhone, which I use almost daily and its worked perfect 99% of the time. Its about a third of the cost, so not sure whether Tomtom one is worth the extra or not.

I've got in on a 3G and love it.

The menus are a bit laggy but when it's in 'nav mode' it's fine.

I also got the TomTom cradle and that's great too.

Yes it's expensive, but to be honest it works out about the same price as a normal TomTom (£60 cradle, £60 app).

I'd rather have the app on my phone and use a cradle that also acts as a handsfree than get a separate device.

I haven't used the free/cheaper apps but I've never felt the need.

If you are used to TomTom and aren't put off the price then go for it.

Is it true that the official cradle has a GPS signal booster?

I have tom-tom on my iPhone 4 and it's brilliant, very fast and responsive, it reacts quickly to you missing a turning and is usually very accurate. The cradle seems like an unnecessary expense however.

I've got it for my iPhone 4 and use the proper cradle and I really like it.

It's expensive for what it is and was a bit clunky in the early days (crashes/signal loss) but I rarely have issues with it these days and favour it to the built in version on my car.

Great app, money well spent.

Using it with an iPhone 4 with a Brodit mount - i.e. not the official one with the extra GPS receiver in - and it's great. The official cradle would have been handy when I had my iPhone 3G however the iPhone 4 has a compass and much better GPS bits so doesn't really need it.

I used the TomTom cradle + app in the USA a few months ago and found that the iPhone doesn't like being sat in the cradle in direct sunlight. On some of the longer drives the display would dim right down to keep the heat down which was rather annoying.

I guess it's not an issue you're likely to come across in the UK though!

My friend has just purchased this for his iPhone 4. He mentioned the fact that if you buy a TomTom out right you generally have to pay for map updates where as with the iPhone version you actually get the updates for free via the app store.

Can anyone confirm this is the case? if so then that's a good reason to buy this over a stand alone solution!
