Does anyone have a Tom Tom Go 730 (or any Tom Tom I expect) that they could use to check to see if they get a peculiar result as well - or if it's just me.

The Travelodge web site gives B26 1DS as the code and I put this in and this took me towards central Brum. I thought this was wrong and put the road adjacent to the Travelodge into the device and this then told me to turn round and go back a mile - to the correct place! I have tried this again and the satnav seems to think B26 1DS is at the junction of Coventry road and Arthur street which from the Post Office postcode checker is B10 - peculiar eh? This is 3 miles from the proper B26 1DS

Can one or more of you try this please - have I a corrupt file or is the Tom Tom database wrong?

Thanks, Mel

The problems in using a postcode and no house number, postcodes just point to roads and roads can be very long, delivery drivers never find my house as I don't have a number they can put in their satnav.

You are dead right!

I did not have the number - 1741!

Pressing enter of the post code without the number took me to the begining of the Coventry Road - not 1741.

Not sure how I get round this issue in a Tom Tom without a house number. Google maps takes me to the right place with JUST the post code - seems a shortfall in Tom Toms set up somewhere - or am I missing something?

Will be wary in future - I expect I have been lulled in the past as I have not needed to find an address with the post code only in a long road.

Thanks all. Mel

Many SatNavs do not use the full postcode, so they require the house number to get the accuracy required for true start-to-finish directions.

This is mainly due to space issues, as storing location information about full postcodes requires a large database. There will more than likely be licensing costs involved with getting this information from the map providers as well.

Must be so - the full post code would have got me to between 1741 and 1795 - would have seen the travelodge easily. The ACTUAL result was "2" to the end (1800 or more)! Rubbish!
