TOMTOM. Map Updates etc?

Thread resurrection!

I've noticed that you can get a TomTom One V2 for £99 at the moment so was thinking about it. From reading up it looks like the V3 is a stripped down version without bluetooth and SD card slot but has newer software/maps.

My question is, seeing as the V2 is better specced and cheaper, can I just buy that and update to the latest maps or is it not that easy?

The other difference is the newer v7 software on the device. I think TomTom are meant to be releasing it for older devices but at a later date.

You could update the maps but as said above it may be for the worse.

I dont think you can even buy the software to update it at the moment. As far as I understand its not 100% compatable with older devices due to different features. Its avaliable to download from other sources but is not meant fully working.

Im going to just wait til Tomtom release it :)

I don't think old devices are meant to get full v7 with v7 maps at any point, there might be update like for XL versions, adding v7 features, such as mapshare, where you can edit and download edits of maps to originals (one way streets, roads closed for refurb for years, everything that Teleatlas missed etc). However, it seems to be one heck of a con as well - there are reports that mapshare is available free for the first year, and then becomes Plus service which you have to pay for. I think it's a con considering this feature depends on users actually sharing their updates with others - so effectively if you want to have up to scratch maps on your device you have to correct them yourself, give it to others and still be charged for it.

I have the tomtom one v3 with version 7 maps and software. My cousins road (newbuild) is still not on the map after 5 years.

With version 7 you can correct the maps and then connect to tomtom home and upload the changes. Other users do the same so hopefully that way maps will stay updated and useable for longer.

As said earlier in this thread the tomtom one v3 doesn't have a SD slot but it does have 512MB built in memory (UK version) so you just update through tomtom home or overwrite files as the unit is seen as a drive in windows.
