Hi,

got a tomtom XL Live today :)

postcode search seems to be some what lacking!! or is my device defective?

click on map --> navigate to --> Address --> Postcode UK is selected.

If I enter a postcode of DY11 6DN. The selection screen only allows DY11 not the full postcode. If I click on DY11 gives me a list of streets to choose from.

My old Garmin 765T when entering a postcode would allow me to enter the full postcode of DY116DN and then select street from a couple and then house number and go.

Is this how tomtom devices are? no full 7 digit postcode search?

TIA

My TomTom One allows a full postcode search. So I can't see why the XL wouldn't.

thanks for the reply,

so if you entered dy116dn as a postcode it would come up full in the selection below the line?

mine only shows DY11

The name of the street shows below the line doesn't it?

I don't have mine with me, it's in the car. I'll have a look a min.

I've just had a look and yes it does show full post code and street name below the line.

The TomTom ONE XL Great Britain is preinstalled with maps of the UK and Ireland and the database of satety cameras is fully integrated in your TomTom ONE XL Great Britain navigation software and alerts to warn you when there is a fixed safety camera on your route. The postcode navigation provides quick, accurate destination selection from full UK postcodes

fully updated and when i enter a full postcode such as dy116dn, below the line shows dy11, selected this then i get a LARGE selection of streets to to search.

Why did I move from Garmin.....

thanks for the replies.

my old TomTom go allowed 7 Digit post code searches (to the door searches as I think of them! as that's where they took you)

then I updated it.. and it lost the 7 Digit and went to four digit, I ended up updating it with new full uk postcodes and it allowed 7 digits again

Tom Tom One XL Europe, full postcode search works fine here and always has:

thanks for the links :) your google skills are some what better than mine "tomtom postcode 7 digit xl live"

there is no zip file on mine

In TomTom home there is an option to manage device, in there I have removed all software and maps and am currently re-downloading and installing.

thanks guys

finally managed to get it to work :)

reinstalled tomtom app and maps (had to remove loads of stuff to get it to fit though)

copied over the the postcode file and is now all working again, full 7 digit search. I now only have 16.2mb of reming space does this sound about right ?

I've decided to send the thing back, its now unable to install safety cameras or update fuel prices.

thank you for your assistance though.

click on map --> navigate to --> Address --> Postcode UK is selected.

Hmm, is that for everyone? If I do it your way, then neither can I.

So instead I go: navigate to --> Postcode (at the bottom) ...

not navigate to --> address --> then enter postcode as no, like you that only allows the first bit of a postcode, as you have experienced.

I wonder how many devices are sent back per year (all devices, not just TomToms) because of user error rather than actual faults. Ah well.

When i go to navigate to the only place I can enter a postcode is in Address, there is no option to go to a straight postcode search.

Ill stick with my garmin 765T for now.

thanks
