Tonic Water?

Quinine is not enough to just "poison" you, you need a LARGE amount probably straight Quinine to poison you. Quinine is in tonic for the bitter taste, maybe back then it was poisonous since the amount wasnt handled carefully. When was the last time somebody died from drinking tonic water besides if they were allergic to it?

again someone has lost the point entirely. Quinine just from its chemical structure is classed as a poison lol. Doesn't matter if you ingested 1 molecule are trillions of them, your still taking poison into your body.

People die from quinine related problems all the time from the older generation. Using my nana as a good example (although shes still alive). She use to be on quinine sulphate tablets but also drank tonic water, basically killing one of her kidneys off in the process lol.

a lot of people go on holiday having taken quinine based anti malarials and still drink tonic water, usually not feeling too bad on holiday but having to go to hospital soon after they get back home. Whilst working in a pharmacy in a hospital for over a year (before i started uni) I saw quite a few people being treated for quinine poisoning, not earth shattering numbers mind, but more than you'd probably first think.

I knew a bartender who got injured by tonic water after a crate of it exploded, he got schwepped away.

According to some people, whether a myth or not, gin is more of a depressant than most other forms of booze.

I suspect that is a myth, the mind is an immensely powerful thing so when people believe that gin is a depressant it's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Tonic on it's own is nice sometimes although I don't drink it all that often.

Never drunk it by itself, do you really have to ask.

The only use for tonic is a a mixer for gin.

I like my G&T too. I keep the gin in the freezer :-)

As for having tonic as a soft drink, I quite like to mix it with orange juice. Nice thirst-quencher on a hot day. Of course, served ice cold.

Let's do a roll-call for gin brands. What tickles your fancy? For me, it gotta be Bombay Sapphire.

I drink a glass everyday because I get bad restless legs. The quinine helps it somehow.

I don't necessarily enjoy it, but I don't hate it either. Its just weird.

Bombay Sapphire, Tanqueray, Hendricks are all solid choices, for a bit more 'out there' choice then Blackwoods do a very nice gin.

Couldn't agree more!

It's just the way of the World, everything in its natural order and all that. :)
