Just watched it and i am was quite taken by it. It focused on a girl being killed on the motorway by a lorry driver using his phone. Now, i will admit that i use my phone while driving and i don't think twice about it especailly on motorways as i have never seen it as any worse than talking to a passenger and smoking or retuning the radio. But after seeing that i think i will go to Halfords tomorrow and get a hands free thingy.

Did anyone else catch it? Has it changed their opinions about it?

I was quite annoyed that he didn't book that van which was driving down the hard shoulder behind the guy he was just lecturing. Also I think that particular policeman was very unprofessional. Fair play to him for being one of the guys who has to tell families of deaths etc though.

He didn't see him.

Fair enough, I thought he had. If I was the guy in the Volvo I'd have told him.

Yeah me too. The guy getting the ticket looked at the van driving on the hard shoulder then looked at the camera with his little puppy dog eyes as to say "not fair :( " lol

I really don't understand those who use their mobile whilst driving. IT'S AGAINST THE LAW for crying out loud. I cycle 1 mile (So far, i know) to work, and have been almost mullered more times than I care to remember by people using mobiles.

I think that certain parts of the law regarding mobile phone use are pretty dumb, like parked up with your engine still running can get you slapped. But whilst driving, in any circumstances, it's just plain ignorant/stupid.

Eating and smoking are both nearly as bad imo, but the way they affect your driving bility differs to mobile phone use. Apparently.

Why didn't he book that woman in the black BMW using her phone?

He was on his way back to the RTC location, if I remember correctly, which I'd imagine takes precedence. He has the right to use his discretion anyway.

Think the Volvo driver was just the last straw for that particular officer though.

Have you never broke a law? Never littered? Do you drive? Ever strayed over the speed limit?

Fair play to the drivers mate for realising the magnitude of the situation and the stupidity of his mate and coming out with the truth, rather than protecting him.

.. another side of the job that people dont get to see.

During my time in the Special Constabulary I attended two fatal RTC's. One of them we were the first on scene.

It is a bizzarre expierience having to tell a family that their son is dead, although the regular bobby actually told them I was there at the time with him.

When they realised that we were first on the scene they asked us both questions about how, why what, where and when etc.

The thing that stuck out was being asked if he said anything to either of us before he died, he was unconcious but we pulled him out of the car because there was damage to the petrol tank and we could smell petrol and didn't want to leave him in the car should it catch fire.

We tried to revive him but with no joy.

He was also going to do someone for 85mph. There goes that 90mph theory :D

tbh that particular police offer strikes me as a bit of a ****er

i've been told by at least 3 police officers, that they personally only bother pulling anybody doing near 90. People doing the small/mid 80s get left alone.

Obviously, he can pull you for doing 71 if he wants, and its up to the particular officer in question to decide what to pull you for.

But he strikes me as a real jobsworth, not only was he going to pull over somebody doing only 85, but the lecture he gave the guy using the hard shoulder. Yes you shouldnt do it, but he didnt half go off on one.

To be fair to him he had just dealt with a fatal rtc so I think his emotions were running a bit high. He was probably doing it all for the cameras though

to be fair i suppose there were a lot of factors involved prior to the rant, the TV crew being with him / making an example of them on TV

and the fact he was obviously upset at the fatal RTA.

but doing somebody for 85 ? probably him playing up for the TV again possibly ?
