Firstly apols if this had already been discussed, a search revealed nothing. Also sorry if its nothing new to you but I only discovered this last week.

An app that local restaurants, supermarkets and takeaways advertise food they're going to just throw away at a greatly reduced price. I think it's a great idea to cut waste and grab yourself a bargain meal. For example, one of our local carvery does a bumper bag of a roast for £3.30. You get loads more food and it's obviously more healthy than a take away.

Anyone else used it? What were your experiences?

I live in the middle of nowhere so wouldn't be much use to me but I gotta say this is a fantastic thing if it works.
Same. There's no places close to me using this service.

Ah that's a shame, you've both tried it out? In a perfect world, every local restaurant, shop and manufacturer would be registered to the app. Our local spar shop does it for one.

It has proven handy if I'm on a night shift, or say we fancy take away and I'm willing to drive out for it.

maybe, if, as said, you live somewhere where you could walk somewhere to pick something up, and, have a lifestyle where you don't plan meals, too much.

TV item about them a while back, as a mutually beneficial service whereby restaurants can make some extra cash, still making some margin, but avoiding usual front of house/service/delivery costs.

- for supermarkets (spar too?) they can/do just reduce perishables/out-of-date, at the end of the day like Aldi/asda/... already do;
as the occassion presents, often pick up spare loaves of reasonable quality bread, for recipes like bread&butter pudding etc, that don't need fresh.

I generally find the pricing is a bit prohibitive e.g. for breakfast I could go to Greggs and get a coffee and bacon sandwich at a time of my choosing for a similar price to waiting till 9.45 for the scraps of a hotel buffet breakfast I have to walk a decent distance to get. If you work strange hours some of the late evening dinner deals are pretty good though.

Yeah, its the fact you have to go pick the stuff up, usually at closing time, that puts me off. I don't have the time or the inclination to travel all that way for their leftovers.

Huh. Interesting. I just had a look on the app, just for the heck of it. And apparently the Morrisons in my town is taking part. Their "magic bag" could consist of a range of fruit, veg, bakery, cakes and cheese. £3.09. I actually might have considered getting that as the collection time is between 2pm and 6pm and I could easily get there by bus. But they've sold out of bags.

Still... I might keep my eyes open for them offering more stuff.

Interesting. There are quite a few places near me on the app - one of them unfortunately is Wing Wah (suggested slogan: Not Quite The Worst Chinese Food In The World, But Close) but there's plenty of options that are closer to decent as well.

Will keep an eye on it. Cheers @RoboCod :)

I also discovered this in the last few days.
There's a Morrisons not far away and a couple of other cafes on it.
I've done some googling to try and work out how to get the Morrisons box. It seems like they only have 2-3 boxes per day and sell out very quickly. I'll keep trying this week to get one and probably lose interest if I can't actually buy anything through it. Anybody had any success and or got any tips?
