Too late to apply to Uni?

At the beginning of term I was confident that I wasn't going to apply for University because of my grades, but instead apply next year in 2011.

The only problem is now the Government has decided that the tuition fees will increase for courses starting in 2012.

This will obviously affect me, so my question now is, is it worth me applying to University.

The problem is that the courses I want to do require ABB and I got well below that at AS level.

I would say it's far too late, the courses have been running for a month and you don't have the grades, you haven't got a chance.

Unlucky on the tuition fees by the way ;)

You will not get into Uni this year.

UCAS applications ended 15th January and late applications ended in June/July sometime.

And surely the grades Uni are looking for would be A level rather than AS level? Guess it could depend on the course.

But yea, no chance of getting in now i'm afraid.

Ok thanks, do you think it is worth applying even just for clearing?

I know the chances of getting the course I want is slim but is it worth giving it a go?

It wouldn't hurt to write a few letters, but if you haven't got the grades AND you're applying well over a month after the start of the year, I'd be very surprised if they'd consider you.

Why were you waiting the extra year? Re-sitting some exams to get the grades you require?

Yes.

Ended???

Are you talking about the past?

Well if you are talking about starting right now as in tomorrow, then yes the applications for 2010 entry (September just past) ended in January.

UCAS applications for 2011 entry (September 2011) are being submitted now and the deadline is January 2011.

Sorry about the confusion, I am talking about entry in 2011.

Oh well then you have up until January to apply through UCAS. But the earlier the better.

Tbh though, since you don't have the grades then I would go to college now and get some form of qualification towards the Uni course that you want to do. There isn't much point in spending £20 odd on UCAS with the knowledge that you don't have the grades to get in.

I mean you can certainly try, but with the amount of people who applied this year, next year will be the same or worse. Uni's will be picking only the best people and binning those who don't even meet the minimum requirements for the course. Pretty brutal, cause I know first hand as I tried to get in this year but got rejected. Now I'm back at college and doing an Access course to get in.

only noobs use UCAS

professional lazy gits find out the contact details for whoever is in charge of the course that they want to do at the uni that they want to go to and then absolutely hound them for the month before uni term starts until you get a place.

Are you an A level student just starting your a2 year?
You'll want your tutor to predict you ABB then and maybe a reason for doing badly in AS year.
Just do some re-takes :)

I managed to get in to uni 4 weeks late, rang up and went in to see the head of the department. Though I did actually meet the grade requirements. Started the next day.

Without the grades and 2 months over your chances are going to be slim I'm afraid.

*edit* urgh, realised your after 2011 entry. doh.

To OP, why don't you get a full time job, save some money as well as gain some valuable work experience and go to university later in life as a mature student.

Don't rush
