Too many buttons - how do you cope?

have u considered buying a console?
j/k

Well, funny you should say that, I considered it for about 5 seconds, but seeing as i just spent £1000 on Conroe, 1900XT, 2gb RAM, flatscreens etc it wasn't really an option :p

I use the Keypad for Quake III, so I've started using that for BF2, my little finger referenced on the arrow keys - 6 mouse buttons and the rest of the keypad I'll have to get used to.

I preordered BF2142, so I think I'll skip the learning curve on BF2 as I feel so far behind everyone, and start a fresh with a level playing field.

Ah no you've got the wrong end of the stick :) I love the idea of spotting specific targets, I just dislike how its done. I'd rather have a combo like:

1. Medic!
2. Spotted
1. Tank
2. APC
3. Helicopter
4. Big freakin' bear
3. Need Backup

So to spot a helicopter you just press 1, then 3 in quick succession. That way you can carry on moving and fighting while using radio messages. Just like CS :)

Problem with that is that the spotting feature in BF2 is context senstive, and as a result, you need to be pointing directly at the object you're reporting - as such you need to stop fighting in order to place your crosshairs over it.

Using nothing but a mapped menu where you didn't need to specifically point out the target would be a bit complicated.

Unless, ofcourse, you reported in every vehicle in sight - no matter how far away they are. Meaning if you had two tanks and a helicopter, and you selected "tank" from the menu, it would report "multiple armour units" or something simular...

*emails suggestion to EA*

I normally bind all comms to the Number pad but i find i rarely using them in CSS. RTCW is another story ;)

Google 'I hate this key'

or learn to properly work your fingers! :)

saying that my old keyboard had a power off button in the most stoopid of places... so i popped it out.. job done... i also think there is software that disables annoying keys like the windows key while you are in game

and what program might that be? :)

The CSS comms is pretty clunky and I only ever use it when I am crouching behind a box or there are friends nearby.

Only ever use the comms for two things tho - enemy spotted or bomb down. Even then it can be sometimes quicker to type it then look in the menu as I always forget the keys lol.
