Too many credit cards? aka "The Credit Card thread"

Just had this turn up, thanks to this thread.

Nice. Perhaps this could be renamed the credit card thread, where people can discuss new cards, get advice, post new offers they’ve found etc?

It's not just about the money. You're selling your data as well.

In 5 years time, I will be mortgage free and student loan free. I will never have any debt again. If I want to upsize house or car, it will be paid for with cash.

No one will be coming after me for money except for council tax and utilities. That's how I want to live my life. OK I missed out on a couple of hundred at most per year. That's not going to change my life. Having a clear mind to focus on work will.
I feel like you’re just using this thread to brag

£960 over 4 years for a corner sofa. Bargain!

PS cheapest one at DFS is $649 and 3 years credit lol

Is that Jermaine Beckford?

Everyone’s ruining my thread with silly bickering.

The thread was never meant to be about whether credit was good or not, just a discussion about credit cards in general and how to approach them. Anyone who has no interest in credit cards or credit in general, should have no interest in the thread, not be charging in with pointless arguments.

Why would I need more than 1 one cc? tbh I was googling about ending mine, but it can affect credit rating. I guess I'm now in that cult for a life time. It's nice to have a cc "just in case" but if I have savings then why do I need one and shouldn't the all knowing credit rating systems know what savings I have?
Well the buyers protection for one.

Or emigrate.

Our previous next door neighbours did exactly that, they racked up tons of personal loans, credit cards, posh Audi on finance, sold that and their house, took the money from all that and moved to Australia.

Not a damn thing anyone could do about it.

funny thing is now as it's been over 7 years if they ever came back they probably wouldn't even be chased for it.
When I was younger I defaulted on a £2500 credit card bill. They chased me for a long time, constantly towards the end, but once the 6 years were up and it fell of my credit record, I didn’t get a single call or letter again

I’ve got my last default from 2018 coming off in October, I’ll then be completely clear of anything like that. Does being default clear, even if it’s 1 old one, give your credit rating a nice boost?

Do some more prime CC providers operate strict no default rules?

I'm on have both the Amex BA and Barclays Premier which includes Avios.. this allows me to link other credit/debit cards not associated with Avios to earn points. Don't have a specific Barclays Avios card.

Got too many credit cards tbh.. around 15 or so, if i include debit cards... which i use about 3 as my main and the opthers i make random purchases and pay off straight away. This is purely done to increase my credit rating after i got a Default (which i appealed) a long time ago because of a non existent mobile bill
Doesn’t too many cards negatively impact your rating though?
