I was coming out of work and i was stood waiting for my mate to come to his car, the guy that travels with us said theres a small cat at the gate , its very cute, so i just step out from the car and this cat ran up to me almost instantly, i had some cheese and onion crisps on me so i gave it one ,it took it straight away , so its now here back at home and i am feeding it ham and milk , soon as i gave it some milk he came up to me and rubbed its head on my chin etc to say thank you , i noticed its got a small scar on its back wheres its been fighting or something , its got no collar, have i done the right thing ?, i didnt trust this cat around the work carpark as cars are always going up and down and its life could have been cut short.
Take him to the vet to scan for a microchip first at least, lots of cats don't wear collars because they just take them off. Someone could be missing their little buddy!
Also, no milk.. bad for cats, unless its cat milk.
why would they let out a cat this time which could get ran over?, to me thats bad ownership right there, i have probably saved this cats life, after eating its stuff it seems really happy and wont stop puring around me , licking my arm to ..i think ive made the right choice
Never give cats any thing from the onion family as it is posion to them and can kill them, also most cats are lactose intolerant but they can drink goats milk
No ham/pork either..
Get it to the vets where it can be scanned for a chip, if no chip, then get him/her sexed, approximate age and wormed & inoculated. You'll also want to get a decent flea treatment, Frontline is very good.
You need to be feeding it properly and providing it with access to fresh water, decent food and separate litter facilities at all times.
Good luck buddy, just do your research, before you potentially make any mistakes that could hurt your new friend!
And try to avoid giving it anything non-meat, cats are obligate carnivores and can't really process anything other than meat. The sentiment is great but there is so much cat-caring fail in your posts it is staggering! Do some research if you plan on keeping it.
Well thats 3 of my 4 cats screwed then.
Dylan (15y/o) is skinny and built for speed. He munches kebabs, baked beans and EVERYTHING!
Jim, 4y/o built for brute force, takes himself off to the chinese chippy at the bottom of the street everynight to munch on left over pork balls and other crud
Genie, 5y/o built for comfort, is to stupid to understand an only eats cat food and some tuna.
Fake Genie, est. 2y/o built to be a cat but looks east-Asian......., eats anything he can get his chops round.
Fake Genie is a stray that just decided to move in with us last year.
You know when you get a new sofa the old one lives in the back yard for 6months because it was sooo comfy that you just cant let it go......
Well this black cat started living in it, a few weeks later started running through the and grabbing some food then bolting back to the sofa.
It started to get cold and wet outside so he would come in, sneak upstairs to get a warm up and have a nap.
This cat didnt like to be touched by anyone. Was scared of everything.
As he used to have a collar, and how he acted, we think he used to live in a house with kids that was noisy and not that nice a place.
a good few months down the line he has fully moved in and has become part of the family.
Loves to be picked up and cuddled, purrs like a loud purring thing, responds to Fake Genie.
He is such a sweet little cat TBH.
We had to take him the vets, they scanned him, and it turned out he was from the local cat rescue place.
He was re-homed but its obvious he didnt like it so ran away.
His full name is King Fake Genie of the Sofa.
He looks like the real genie and we think he used that fact to infiltrate the house.
So yeah, cats will eat anything. But dont give them anything acidic like onions or milk etc etc unless you like cleaning up cat barf.
Trust me, they never do it on the tiles..... It's always on that new rug/carpet/shirt/trainers that you just bought 20mins earlier.
Deffo take the moggy to the vets and scanned for a chip.
It doesnt sound like he ran away, he is too affectionate for that, more like it just got lost
Been feeding my cat nothing BUT milk for 14 years, now she's started being sick every few days out of nowhere. She's never been to the vets in 14 years either.
I feed her the odd crisp every couple of weeks, taking her to the vets next week.
I'd put it back where you found it or at the very least out posters in the area saying "did i accodentally steal your cat from here?"
Our cats don't wear collars after various accidents involving the collars. Most the cats around here don't have collars I be fair and some of them seem like they never go indoors and follow anyone that walks up the street
Out old cat ate wotsits , quavers , wheeties , green peas , ham , cheese , milk , anything really... He lived mostly outside with no collar and reached the age of 21+
I lost my cat this time last year, he didn't have a collar at the time (he does now with a tracker on no less) and after a week we'd thought that was that.
But out of sheer luck I posted his picture on Facebook and asked friends to share it with their friends and by miracle a friend of a friend said he was in her street.
I went down there (about 3 miles from my house) and it was him! But what got me was that he'd been walking around that estate for a few days, been in a few houses for food etc and not one person thought to take him to the vets and get him scanned. Had they have done, we wouldn't have got him back a lot sooner.
So PLEASE, take the little fella to the vet to find out is he's lost.
