Took the Jump and purchased me a eVGA 680i motherboard of an competitor. Im sorry overclockers, but you charge £22 postage to ireland. So the evga motherboard would work out at £190

Delivered it cost me £120. ;) Cost me £10 in postage and packaging though.

However the owner has only had it 1 week and brought it from guess where? Overclockers

Wow.....

so

Pentium 4
680i
2gb crap ram
8800gtx

I think I need to sort a few issues out.

:D

Cant spend anymore though. My dad aint gonna be happy at this spend.

I heard about a new eVGA 680i motherboard. just my luck. Apparently it watercools the north and south bridge.

From what I have heard it runs extremely hot.

Im going to have to get my thinking cap on how to get the temps down...

For £120 you got a brilliant deal on a really good motherboard. Stop worrying about what you haven't got and appreciate what you have! The cooling system does run quite warm, but as you're starting out with a P4 you have a huge advantage - it doesn't need so much power through the PWM circuitry and it starts the FSB 66MHz lower so it will automatically run cooler.

Your carp 667MHz RAM doesn't matter either because of the asynchronous CPU and RAM speeds, so you can clock away with impunity (you'd need to have overclocked the CPU to 333MHz to need to overclock the RAM anyway) and with an 8800GTX there won't be many games you can't play, surely?

Save up a few more Euros and slot an E6400 in it in a few months time and you'll be horrified and amazed. Amazed at how much faster it is in benchmarks and DVD encoding and horrified at how much it feels the same in ordinary Windows applications that don't need massive processing power anyway.

And EVGA are doing a swapsie on old boards for new ones as the old ones don't clock Quad-cores that well, so all you need to do is send them an e-mail and they'll send UPS to collect your board and within 10 days a new, upgraded, one will arrive on your doorstep. For free!

Like I said, you got a bargain, and EVGA are supporting the owners to the hilt, so take advantage. Luck of the Irish or what?

1. Get a decent case
2. Get a decent heatsink & fan
3. Use decent thermal compound
4. Make sure you've got good air flow in the case :]

1. Got a NZXT Lexa Classic. Paid £70 so I expect it to be decent
2. Got me a Zalman 9700 Aero Flower.
3. Using standard Zalman Grease atm. Might get AS5 if I can justify the cost.
4. Hopefully. The Zalman is pushing the air out the the exhaust fan (120mm) and their are 2 other 120mm fans blowing away, as well as a 80mm at the top.

Luck of the Irish  I only live there.......

Maybe its in the water :D

Im quite happy @ £120  . Especially since overclockers double ordered for me.

I have got 2x of what I paid.... Not bad eh?

Thanks for the good advice. Ill use the old ram for a couple of months.

Do I have to pay for the postage to send back to eVGA? If so i cnat be bothered lol.

Its not 667mhz ram :( Its 533Mhz :o

It still doesn't matter as you can run them at independent speeds. And you'd still need to be running the CPU at 266MHz to run them 1:1 anyway.

And according to your sig you're running 252FSB at the moment. C'mon get that CPU overclocked up to match your RAM!!! :D

im trying lol. :)

I have a **** asrock board.

I cant get up any higher. It wont boot. I can edit the voltages at all.

Shame really.

Not any more you don't - I'd be very surprised if you can't do a bit better with the 680i board. You won't be short of options to tweak with that board :)

:D

Hopefully.

Just had a bit of a shock. Paid for a 8800gtx on the bay. the bay contacted me to say a account had been hijacked and had sold a 8800gtx.

Here was me ****ing myself lol

Turns out I had purchased another 8800gtx last week. (See forums somewhere). Turns out that he is a fake. :D

Im so lucky. I was going to pay that guy. :o Thank god I paid the £10 extra.

The dude who i actually paid contacted me and said it has been sent. Provided me with a tracking number and pictures of parcel.
