What do you guys use for stability testing your big sticks of memory?

Had a bash with memtestx86 from a bootable CD but its awefully slow!

Is it possible to configure something like Prime95/Orthos to test the whole lot? out the packet it seems to be testing very small globs and not the whole whack?

Also had a go with that little windows based memtest app but it's not allowing me to run four copies testing 1GB each?

Any helpful suggestions welcomed! :)

OCCT is good for testing memory.

But Memtest86+ is only slow because it has to test 4gb. 3gb would be quicker, 2gb quicker than that etc.

i don't ever stick with one app for testing, a bit of prime/occt/gaming/rendering and then i'm happy if it's stable.

memtest i haven't used in eons tbh, i find it ok for testing whether memory is good or bad but not great for stability at a certain overclock.

Out of curiosity are there any windows based memory checkers i can't think of any and i would rather be able to check memory from windows.

Thanks for those i always just googled memtest and got the boot program and i have always discounted anything with overclocking in it as i am a complete noob and don't overclcok after just setting mobo to turbo seemed to cause stability issues lol.

Well if you have Vista and hold down delete after the BIOS page has loaded (so you dont get into bios setup), then youll get the OS choice screen which will include a windows memory diagnostic tool. It gives 2 passes and is quicker than memtest but only because its less extensive.

Seems like just OCCT and Windows Memtest so far?

I just use the windows based memtest, just open 3 or 4 windows at once with whatever it allows you to ( 95x mb i think per each ) and let it run for 300-400% coverage.

You can do your other stuff ( as long as it doesnt require much memory) at the same stuff so its fine, or just leave it running when you go to work or for night.

Ok, so let me get this straight, where or why did you feel the urge to tell everyone you don't use one single app for memory testing?

It's like somebody said which single app do you use . . .or which single app should they choose? in which case a logical response from you would have been . . .

"i don't ever stick with one app for testing!"

It's almost as if someone implied something to which you are reacting, in written english a suitable response would have gone something like:

"i use a whole bunch of apps for testing!"

This would have avoided any subliminal undertones . . . freaky! :D

Um not quite pegasus1

Myself and marscay were having a tongue in cheek waffle about nothing really, just a laugh and certainly no handbags lol! :D

If you would care to share your tips/methods on testing 4GB of ram go right ahead! :o

I jumped on this thread as ive recently (june) stuck 4 gig an extra 2 x 1gig sticks) in my machine and added Vista 64, i was only home for 2 weeks so didnt have time to test anything in any depth. Apart from randon BSD's which turned out to related to the Asus Probe bug i havnt had an issue. Just to test my system using nothing more scientific than running loads of programs i encoded a video, converted a load of music and played COD4 at the same time and all was well.
I wont push this rig any further as i'l build a new one once im back in blighty but as that will be 4gb+ (ddr3) and Vista 64 based i would be interested in a decent stability program.

now does anybody want to meet me round the back of the bike sheds for a straightener. :p
