well what a pants day so far!

I ordered a hex socket set so that I could remove the brakes on the front of the car to try and solve this squealing problem. They turn up and require a 3/8" ratchet, something I thought I had but don't. So I need to order one from Screwfix (unless anyone knows anywhere cheaper).

Thought I'd take the wheels off anyway and check the discs & pads over, started loosening the nuts on the front passenger side and all was going well until I got to the locking nut. It appears that which ever garage the missus took it to to have new tyres put on has managed to bend some of the teeth on the locking nut. I can't get the adapter in so I can't remove it.

Anyone advice on how to get it out and where I should look at buying a new set for a mk4 golf?
