...I check everyday, no news. Tool are supposedly releasing a new album sometime this year and everyday I check but nothing.

I am a almost obessive fan of their album Lateralus and a massive fan of their other albums but not so much 10,000 Days which didn't sound much like Tool to me.

I gather there are fans on the forum of the band, so whenever someone gets some new info on the new album could you kindly post it in this thread please.

Thanks

I rely on Ultimate-Guitar.com for updates since they always post the slightest bit of info on the new album. The most recent updates on there haven't been firm dates, just about how difficult it's been for them, and Maynard reckons it's a long tedious process.

I found this pretty cool rehearsal footage for Lateralus on there: Link

Lateralus is my favourite album of theirs. It's crazy I have been listening to it for 13 years now! I was severely disappointed with 10,000 Days. The only songs I like on there are Vicarious,Jambi and Wings for Marie. Rosetta Stoned uses the same riff from Third Eye and Right in Two sounds too similar to Forty Six & 2.

I will post back as soon as I read any updates on the new album, but the last date mentioned was just 2014 by Danny.

Yep the wait continues! I love all his stuff so Puscifer has kept me happy though.

Have you guys heard the Forty Six & 2 cover by the school?

Ha, yeah, my bro sent me that the other day. Really well done by them!

Agree about Puscifer. Usually I listen to bands like Meshuggah, Mastodon, Deftones, but the first time I listened to Conditions of My Parole I was blown away more than any first listen to an album before. I actually had to stop browsing the net so I could just listen to it without distraction.

I liked V is For Vagina, but it was more of a joke album. CoMP has more serious songs and the atmosphere is amazing. You should watch Blood into Wine, which is a documentary about Maynard starting up his vineyard in Arizona. It will give you a new perspective on a lot of the songs, especially The Green Valley, Monsoons and Horizons.

Incidentally, with Horizons he has now written a song about his mother in all of his bands. In APC he wrote Judith and in Tool he wrote Wings for Marie. Judith was about her life as a Christian in the face of her paralysis, Wings for Marie was about her death and in Horizons it's about him scattering her ashes at his vineyard and his final farewell.

I've only just 'discovered' Tool. Jesus did I miss out! Came on here to create a thread asking for album recommendations and stumbled across this one :)

As for the new album, everything I've read suggests nothing more than it's going to be out this year.

Interesting how Adam has a band round his 3 'little fingers'. Wonder if that's to build hand strength or to stop a bad habit of his pinky going awol

Doubt it'll be this year, Tool love to play games with their fans and anyone who is not in the band. There's a ton of evidence of this up on YT.
It'll be done when it's done and far as I'm concerned they can take all the time in the world just so long as it's a good album.

If it was just the album they had to get out then yeah probably could do it in a year. What they have to do (and they know this) is silo away time to do an album and then at least a year of world touring which kinda bites into things like the wine trade, country music and honeymoons :p.
Don't expect it in the next 18 months is my guess.

Nope, he wrote about her on V for Vagina too. :)

Oh yeah, I just realised he wrote "Momma Sed"! Forgot about that. I'm about to record Judith on guitar so I was thinking about all his songs about his mum. I record all the songs I can play so I can get better at guitar. I guess you could argue he mentions her in Sober too since you can interpret the one line as "Mother Marie" instead of "Mother Mary".

Misleading thread title is misleading :(

Not a fan of Puscifer at all. A Perfect Circle on the other hand are awesome :D Lateralus is easily one of my favourite all time albums, but I've been listening to Undertow quite often whilst at work recently. 10,000 days I really enjoy too, more so than others it seems.

Don't think they play games intentionally, having said that, who am I to know. I think its just due to the fact that getting them all to find the time to sit down and write is the issue, Maynard is Maynard, Adam had a scooter crash etc, all these little things just delay it even further.

I saw an interview with Danny and Adam saying they want to get back in the studio, but Maynard did not last year, but as I said, whos to know.

The thread title got me excited.

I've been waiting for the new Tool album ever since 10,000 days came out what was it, 7 years ago? I actually quite liked 10,000 days, but still prefer Lateralus.

But as was said above, they can take as long as they need - I'd rather they produced something utterly perfect like Lateralus than something substandard.

Sure is, Rosetta Stoned being my fave track. Someone on YouTube did an awesome fan made music video with footage from the film 'Fire in the Sky,' that was freaky as ****!

Am waiting for it however due to so many rumors and promises concerning the release's of not just Music but games, films and TV series I put no stock in them anymore just wait for the release otherwise you're just torturing yourself!

So their first tour for 2 years starts tommorrow, I'm thinking they will be airing new material.

I'll update if this thread if they decide play any new songs :)
