First off I'm not after medical advice, will make an appointment with my dentist first thing tomorrow!

After a couple of days of crippling toothache on a tooth I had a filling on, it looks like the tooth has finally decided to form an abcess. My lip is swole and it feels like I've got a tennis ball under my lip!

Anyone else here had one of these nasty abcesses before? I think toothache probabaly has to be the most intense pain ever...

yep, avoid hot liquids for the time being, my mums said in extreme case hot drinks can make them burst, dont sound pleasant lol drink lots of cold drinks, should help get the swelling down some :)

Yes, the best way to deal is to get a needle and a cork, poke the blunt end in the cork and lance the swine. Pain relief is almost instant. If you can stand to do it.

I've had one before when my wisdom tooth was causing me grief. I was made to squeeze it twice a day for two weeks. Needless to say, it bloody hurt and it was disgusting... :(

Greeny yellow fluid seeping into your mouth, most definitely is not pleasant along with salt water rinsing.

Had one a few years ago, eye tooth, swelled up so much i looked like id been smacked in the face. Got put on antibiotics by my dentist for a few days to calm down the swelling before he removed it. Best feeling in the world once that tooth was gone.

I have an infection in my gum from my wisdom tooth while waiting on the epic nhs to get them out about a month to go. On Antibiotics again for the infection and while the pains gone I only have 1 day left of them to go and it all still there. Im going to tell the dentist to burst it when I go back its clearly not going away on its own.

I had one when my tooth cracked underneath between the two roots. It wasnt painful and the first i knew of it was a small squishy bubble at the bottom of my jaw. Apparently grinding my teeth caused it to crack.

Yep had one about 6months ago.

Spent 40minutes in the mirror squeezing as much puss out as i could.

Just popped it with a needle, wasnt painful at all.

Glad I'm not the only one that's had to suffer this pain lol!

It's not guarenteed that I'll be able to see my dentist tomorrow, could be a few days but I'm not sure I'd feel very confident on popping it. :D

Just got back from the dentist, not all great news. There is a small infection in the tooth, the only option would be extraction or root canal as it had a filling before.

I didn't want a root canal or an extraction so the dentist said to go back in 6 months and see how it is... If the pain gets worse I may have to go back sooner, she said to get the swelling down swill with salt water as the infection wasn't big enough to prescribe antibiotics for.

The joy of teeth...

Bonjela will clear that up.

However, if its as bad as you say it is then Bonjela wont help... You've left it too late.

Hope all goes well at the *Gulp*....... Dentist!

I'd avoid the root canal if possible, if you think the pain in your tooth is bad now

My dad has had root canal surgery without anaesthetic, as he doesn't like anaesthetics. Clearly he's a lot harder than he looks. He has occasionally stopped the dentist mid-job and asked for some anaesthetic, but generally he does without.

Madness, to be honest.
