top 100 games of all time (IGN)

I personally don't see why people think ocarina of time is number 1, sure it's an excellent game, but once I completed it, i just couldnt bring myself to play it through again for another 4 years. The best game ever needs to have replayability, and a LOT of it.

Even if there is no replay value now, which I think many people would debate, both quake and doom should feature highly in any greatest game of all time list as they essentually took FPS, and online multiplayer, to the masses in the same way goldeneye and halo did on on console.

Now you're talking about a different list that features 'influential' and 'important to the industry' games, I remember buying my first 3D card for Quake, it was eye candy that drove these games forward, not fun and playability, the FPS genre is the most complained about in that respect.

While I do agree that some games only push forward graphics rather than gameplay I disagree with that in regards to quake, it was the features that made it so great, particularly strong online multiplayer, with many still considering it one of the best online games ever. I would also argue that innovation and technical advancements (in quake case, 3D graphics, mouse look and good mod tools) play an important role in making a game great, to me these are the sorts of things that separate a great game from a really good one.
