Top down RPG's

Currently I am having cravings for top down RPG's but they do not appear to as common as they once were. I tried Silverfall and am one of the few people that liked it but I soon got fed up of how badly the game runs on any system. I am thinking about getting a cheap copy of Loki to try it out.

Due to lack of new RPG's I have restarted Titan Quest with the expansion pack and reinstalled Dungeon Siege 2. It's amazing that these 2 games came out a year apart when you look at the difference in graphics. Even though Titan Quest looks great I am finding the gameplay this time round to be very boring even with different classes. There does not appear to be any strategy to the gameplay and I end up by using the same 2 skills the whole time. I am enjoying DS2 more than I thought I would as it is still fast paced like TQ but with added depth and strategy.

I am still a third of the way through NWN2 but I find the art and level design dull and the game mechanics a bit clunky so I don’t know if I will ever finish it.

Is there anything else that is worth looking at to keep going until the new Diablo or is there anything on the 360 that I may have missed?

Fallout 1 and 2 burn based isometric, post apocalyptic role playing games :p

And both incredibly good.

Fable is amazing if you haven't tried it.

Technically its 3rd person not top down but if you haven't played it.......

edit: Fallout 1 and 2 of course not only being the best rpgs of all time, theyre the best games of all time!

im glad you have the same expereince as i did with titan quest. i dont know why i just dont feel it has enough depth as say diablo which i happily played with several diffrent class's.

when you get loki tell me what its like i feel tempted to try it out too.

I have a copy of Fallout 2 which I installed when I used to have a CRT, but only played for 5 minutes because the graphics were too crude by today's standards. I was sorta thinking about giving it another try, but it's going to look bad on my LCD when upscaled.

What theres nawt wrong with the gxf, they still look ok scaled up on my 24" lcd.

Icewind dale is a cracking game, probably a few quid by now.

Loki was awful; Dull, reptitive and serious performance issues (loading would take an AGE). Multiplayer sucked too.

Baldurs Gate I + Exp + II + Exp modded to run on the BGII and modded to run as one game.

Easy 400-600 hours if you want it, or ~50 for the main story line.

Excellent character progression, story, lore and gameplay.

I've heard FO 1 & 2 are epic games, but the gfx are like something from the 80s. It's not so much the gfx as interface actually, really clunky buttons, the poor animation, etc. It looks way worse than games of a similar age like BG. The X-com games and x-wing & tie-fighter are about 3 or 4 years older but look miles better.

It'd be great if there was a mod or res hack at least.

they where made on tight budgets, and the buttons etc are meant to be big clunky retro 50s stuff.

And the death animations are awesome :D

Fo1 is from 1997 so you gotta cut it some slack.

But fo2 is much imporved (like the ability to push, I killed ian so many times cause he got in the way :( )

With my LCD I would not even consider installing the game as it does not handle non native resolutions very well. It is a shame really as it appears to be a bit of a cult classic.

the mighty...........Arcanum (imo better than Baldurs) total free-roaming zero loading luvliness
