You were right about Friday evening, although before around 1998ish, it was on a Thursday evening. I think moving it to Friday was a mistake, as the music clientèle would have gone out on a Friday and stayed in on a Thursday.

The charts used to be announced on a Tuesday lunchtime with ToTP on Thursday evenings, that wasn't a lot of time to get the lineup sorted.

Regarding John Peel, I think that's a dreadful article that's been linked. He openly admitted being involved with someone underage but it appears to have been completely consensual, the other party herself has gone on record talking about it and saying it was nothing like the Savile situation and praising Peel. Typical bloody gutter press sensationalism on the part of the DM, just trying to rubbish the BBC and only reporting one half of an already well known story.

Apparently the girls who lived with Gary Glitter were all consensual so it's OK then.

Hmm, we're talking about John Peel having sex with an underage girl and it was consensual, well the girls who lived with Glitter in Vietnam also said it was consensual.
Their families appealed for clemency because they were probably getting money out of him so he didn't face the firing squad.
