Top PS2 games

Well, seeing as I flogged all my HD goodies (360, HDTV, 5.1 speakers) to pay for my uni fees, I'm now left with nothing at all except my laptop to game with. It doesn't do a particularly good job at newer titles and I'm fed up of being hunched over it playing Warcraft III and Mafia.

I can just about afford a PS2 if I go to the shops tomorrow as I have a little SD portable to stick it on. Was wondering what games to pick up from the rental shop to go with it.

I've played Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on a PS2 before but that's it. What are the not-to-be-missed games I should look out for, please?

Final Fantasy 10 and 12
God of war 1 and 2
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
Devil May Cry Series
Psychonauts
Grand Theft Auto Vice City and San Andreas.
Resident evil 4
Guitar Hero
Manhunt
Black (Although better on XBox)
Destroy All Humans
Mafia


These are the only games I own, Because I find them to be the best. :)

Mortal Kombat Deception - just been playing it on line
gta vice city stories - nice game if ported from the psp
Tekken 5
and id go with the rest Resident Evil 4 is Fantastic i Got it on the pc and it rocks!
 
Well in the end I jumped on the "panic bus" and bought a 60GB PS3 before the BC models disappear. Had to flog my DS and its games to get a bit more dosh. Hopefully these games all play nicely with the backward compatibility mode. Worse thing is I have to play on a 14" SD portable until I can afford a new TV after Xmas. :(

I would say that it is one of the best ps2 games made.
Ive played the wii version, and apart from quicker loading and slightly better graphics, its the same game. The wii mote makes aiming a bit easier but the games still very good on ps2.

how you think it is superior is not really relevant, and he is not interested in a cube or wii it is a ps2 game thread

Silent hil 2+3+4

And if you dont mind old games then ff7,8,9 and metal gear 1 are brilliant


EDIT: seems you posted just before me:) I own a ps3 and its a great peice of kit, yet the games are rubbish at the moment. what exacty you mean by the 'BC models' disapearing?

The 60GB model is the only SKU with backwards compatibility to play PS2 games at the moment. It is being discontinued and Sony may not bring out alternative models with the PS2 hardware.

Besides, I wanted to get a PS3 eventually and the deal at the moment with the two free games and the features of the 60GB make it not worth getting the 40GB. I just didn't think I had enough cash but as I've not used the DS in about two months, I flogged it to family for just the bit extra I needed to get a PS3.
