Oops, I missed a 'b' in the title.

I've got £48.24 cashback which is now payable from TCB into my bank account or PayPal. But it says:

"You have £48.24 payable cashback. Please note, £5.00 has been retained from your payable cashback below for your annual membership deduction."

So it's £43 24 I get.

I believe this is for their Plus membership. Not the end of the world but I don't remember signing up for anything other than the basic, and certainly have never paid any fees to Quidco when I've used them. Does anyone think I would have earned less than £43.24 without their Plus membership?

QuidCo has the same thing. You get 'auto-enrolled' practically. The fiver covers the team chasing up any cashback and sometimes attracts premium rates.

Yeah, Quidco have a similar thing but I don't recall them ever changing my account status and retaining any of my cashbacks. Maybe they have now, I haven't used them for a while.

I certainly haven't opted into it but my account shows as a "Premium Account". The fiver is deducted from my balance at some random point (very unclear as to when, and it doesn't seem to appear in any account history).

Its essentially a yearly subscription for getting premium rates which are slightly higher than a basic account. I was on that previously but have since switchd back to basic.

IIRC when I first joined up the only option was £5 annual 'fee' from your cashback, the 'basic' version came along after and I think possibly the default is you are a premium member unless you opt out..

It's a bit shady if it defaults to that, but considering you only 'pay' from your cashback, it's not quite on the same level of Dell warranties etc..

I guess the only way to work out whether you'd have been better off would be to go through your cashback and see what rates they offer with/without premium.

I'd be inclined to say anyone earning less than £100 a year probably shouldn't be on it as i doubt it's more than a 5% boost. However if you're regularly using TCB and spending a decent amount i'd say it's definitely worth it.

All depends how much you use it. I tend to get around £500 per annum from topcashback so I am pretty sure its worth the £5 annual fee for me :) (EDIT: Just checked and I have earnt £271.94 so far this year alone so its going to be more like £750 per annum)

(i buy a lot of work stuff using my topcashback account :))

Yes, my overall earning in the last 7 odd years is about 500 :D. In couple of those years my yearly earning was not even 10 odd quid so it all depends on how much you use it.

I'm at £2931 since Sept '12, just using it whenever there was something I was already going to buy, it soon adds up. Even a few pence on Just eat here and there.

Best earners are when you switch utilities or get a new phone contract, can get hundreds in cashback. I've never used it just to get cashback though, it's just an extra thing I check when about to buy something.

Also got a fair old chunk booking flights and accommodation from the likes of Ocado.

£2300 here. Best one was Habito mortgage advisor. Free service, got £500 cashback. Then a further £500 from the mortgage itself.

I've just gone for the payout today and transferred the money to my bank account and then I opted not to be renewed to the Plus membership and to go back to their 'classic' membership.

Man you're winning with that one! My rate is up next year. I've always stuck with FD, but might check out alternatives for once.

It's the £2,50 bonus' that pop up and i go off looking for stuff to buy just for the cashback!

I don't claim to be an expert by any means, but Habito seemed like a no-regret service. They got me the rate I could have got myself, but they did all of the leg work on paperwork and chasing (100% online), and then rewarded me £500 for using the service. YMMV but worth a shot - they do re-mortgaging too.

Edit: Just checked, it was £600 cashback

I'm still waiting for my cashback from carphonewarehouse from 2016, its been an on going case, pretty much written it off completely at this point.

Was £80 cash back for a phone contract when I got my Samsung S7 Edge, which I no longer have.

Looks like they've removed themselves from the site now sadly. Will keep an eye out next year.

Out of interest (and you may have been asked this before), what's your deal? You seem to have joined ages ago, then not posted and then gone nuts in the last couple months. Not complaining, you seem to follow through the same sub-forums as me so we clearly have similar interests, just seems an unusual pattern.

I think there were quite a few returners when lockdown really set in. I went from getting most of my socialising online (up until 2013ish) to being at work 5 days a week out of town (8-8pm and then restaurant/bar every night) and frankly being done with people in my social time. Bit of a heavy landing going from that to being stuck in 600sqft. So back online it was!

Very nice you did well there. I just checked my Quidco account and forgot there's £30 waiting so have transferred that as well as my TCB. A grand total of £73. Not quite in your league though. :p

These sites are very hit and miss, and seem to make the rules up as they go along.

I've been a premium member for years, and did one of their sim only promotions where you got £30 back.

I confirmed with them in an email that everything was ok before doing it....yet when the time came to claim the cash I was refused for not being a premium member lol

Even though I was at the time, and had an email from them saying I qualified for the promotion they still wouldn't pay up.
