Hello all,

Was wanting some opinions on which of these two games I should choose?

I'm wondering which one may get better over time etc... better, or more interesting loot etc..., but mainly just better gameplay.

Thanks

Dave

6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

I would highly suggest downloading the Torchlight 2 demo and also registering at Battle.net for the free trial of Diablo 3 (up to level 13) so you can see which you personally prefer. It's really hard to compare them as they both succeed and fail in some areas. You won't go wrong with either though. I would also highly recommend looking at Path of Exile, which is free to play, and is very good.

Hated path of exile personally, the pace is far too slow for my liking, D3 was good at first but now ruined by bots and crap drop rates so it doesn't feel rewarding at all. Never tried TL2.

Thanks for mentioning Path of Exile, but I've got both Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3 and want to get into at least one of them. I played Diablo 3 and got bored and confused as to how crafting worked and how multiplayer worked, but still feel like I'm missing out on something.

I ain't give Torchlight 2 a chance yet but the lack of character selection has put me off a bit.

I don't get much time to play these games so I want to pick one and stick to it.

I'll checkout a video of Path of Exile but like I say would prefer to get stuck into one of the two I've mentioned, as to get some of my monies worth.

Thanks

You don't really need to craft in Diablo so if you wanted you could totally bypass that (at least until max level). Multiplayer is okay but I never really liked drop-in public games, you should ask in the Diablo 3 thread for people to play with. Torchlight's lack of character selection is horrible, but it excels in other areas. I'd say play Torchlight for a bit and see how you find the game itself. Doesn't have to be that long, just put an hour in and see how you find it - as the gameplay doesn't really differ later on other than having more skills.

Slow?...I played for about 2 hours and felt i was leveling and getting gear at the right pace, about 100000000x the speed of D3.

All of these games are good, but i would say TL2 takes it, simple fact you can mod it and get more hours out of it with fresh community made content.

No I don't mean the levelling I mean the pace of the actual game moving around and stuff.

If you haven't already played TL1 then i'd say TL2 > D3, but if you've played TL1 to death already like i have then D3 > TL2.

I was so looking forward to TL2 as i immensely enjoyed the first. Then when release came around i threw myself into it and found myself flatlining. It's a very good game but not different enough from the first to keep me going past a single character.

Torchlight 2 - I've played 30 hours

PROS
+ Cheap
+ Great gameplay
+ Lots of fun
+ Well made classes
+ Great loot
+ Runs on weak systems, very good optimization
+ Lots of mods
+ Pets
+ Infinite NewGame+ modes for unlimited replayability
+ Mini-boss after mini-boss after mini-boss

CONS
- Graphics are poor
- Only 3 Classes
- Pets are not optional
- Respect system is restricted to the last 4 skills

Diablo 3 - I've played 100+ hours

PROS
+ Good graphics
+ Amazing storyline
+ Well made classes
+ Variety of classes
+ Good gameplay
+ High budget and it shows
+ High profit margins ensure expansion packs in the future
+ Can make considerable amounts of real money from stupid people if you invest a lot of time

CONS
- Very expensive when it should be cheap or even f2p due to the Auction House
- Poor optimization, requires way more grunt then it should
- Terrible loot system + ridiculous difficulty spike in hell mode almost force the game into a pay 2 win model
- Almost Pay-2-Win thanks to the auction house
- Is not a Diablo game at it's core, fans will be disappointed
- Poor co-op, only 4 players compared to Diablo 2's 18 player parties (8 players + mercenaries)
- Mercenaries cannot be taken online
- Always-on DRM despite being a single player game at it's core
- Bosses and mini-bosses aren't very common
- Stunted replayability due to there being no real endgame

Path of Exile - Only played a few hours

PROS
+ Free 2 play
+ Best f2p business model I've seen to date
+ Amazing class system, gives you infinite flexibility
+ Class system allows you to make anything you want, be it a Warrior who can summon the undead or an Archer who can create magical shields of fire
+ Best graphics of the 3
+ Seamless MMO despite being an action RPG which plays like it's rivals
+ Amazing ingame currency system like I've never seen before

CONS
- Animation quality isn't too great
- The pace of the game is a little slower than D3/T2

Verdict: Best to worse

1. Path of Exile
2. Torchlight 2
3. Diablo 3

Not to say D3 isn't a good game, because it is. However there are too many things wrong with it and is bad value for money.

Omaeka. I just can't be bothered sometimes and this is one of those times.

I think it's safe to say he or she, doesn't like big companies and looks to champion the lesser known games / companies :).

You're not actually serious are you? It completely craps all over the first two games. The story has been universally panned by players.

I was about to post...

Seems he is a super fan of only the third installment and has no relation to D1 or more importantly D2.

Diablo 3 - I've played 100+ hours

PROS
+ Good graphics - not really, but an improvement based on most dungeon crawlers.

+ Amazing storyline - No...just no after the reveal and trailer most fans already knew the story, don't believe me? go look at my predictions way back in the D3 thread

+ Well made classes - at first yes, until nerf after nerf from people who hate to see anyone else have fun because they picked the wrong first class.

+ Variety of classes - as compared to D2 I would say no, but as a standalone it has an ok variety

+ Good gameplay - for the first 10 hours or so

+ High budget and it shows - wrong, everyone who followed it's progression knows it was rushed.

+ High profit margins ensure expansion packs in the future - that only idiots will buy

+ Can make considerable amounts of real money from stupid people if you invest a lot of time - about the only truth in this post to due with D3 side of things.

I don't even like Diablo 3, the hours I put in amounted to nothing of value and a pretty poor level of satisfaction from the overall experience. I was drawing blood out of a rock trying to come up with some decent points about the game to avoid sounding like a hater and sparking the fanboys off, but instead you get the eliteists popping their necks in to slate the game.

You really, really can't win. Tummy actually understood that I disliked the game, but then again got some retarded conclusion that I dislike big companies .

You though Aeleys, completely over your head as apparently I'm some 'super fan'. You can't even deny that in the top-view Action RPG genre Diablo 3 has the most polish and feels the most AAA. Then again how could I possibly ever say those words as I'm so against the big companies, despite being about the only person on here who's ever had a rational opinion about EA.

Diablo 3's 'Always on DRM' as you put it, is as about the in game economy.

Wut? That is exactly the point, the economy being based on the AH is the biggest thing that ruined the game.

Although I take it you see the AH as a positive thing? Not that it matters though, I am a supafan and that.

I said you "seem" how am i supposed to know every thought you have from the 1 reply I read, you're just getting upset at something now which is not what was intended.

the post was mainly pointed at the guy wanting to know what game to play, meaning to avoid D3.

I'm not an elitist, don't have the time nor energy for it :D

as for D3 being the most polished I'm gonna disagree but that's my personal view it does LOOK the most polished but once you play it you see the mess it is.

D3 has no re-playability unless, as you said have time to invest to make some real coins.

I just took your post, to show my views I didn't say you have to agree to them nor anyone else for that matter...geez.
