Somebody hasn't heard of Titan Quest.
Indeed,
based on TQ and TQIT completion with at least one character (and completing normal and/or epic with a silly number of alts), too many hours of D1 and D2, a lot of Torchlight (pre-order in for TL2) and playing the D3 demo through with all classes, my actual first choice remains...
TQ:IT (with fan patch and vault mod)
The only improvements I really want for that game are a way to make 'Normal' worth playing (Epic and Leg are where the fun is), and a decent randomised level engine (the pre-made maps being what I hate about the 'do it three times over' mechanic common to many such games).
Nothing about the D3 starter edition made me think "worth £50". If it had been priced like TL2 then I'd have bought it, but having read the reviews/forums about the AH effectviely replacing gear drops (even taking the 'forum whine is 90% rubbish" into account) I just didn't think it was worth it.
Similar thing to the CoD games - MW1 was fun and I enjoyed both SP and MP. MW2 was flawed in major ways, but nonetheless fun (decent silly cinematic single player, long enough for a shooter; Multiplayer with idiotic no-sever issues, lag problems etc was still fun enough for me to prestige multiple times) - but when they started charging significant prices for DLC maps I decided that was where the line was drawn for me - no longer worth it, haven't bought a CoD game since.
Hmm, I've gone well off-topic, but may as well ask:
Have there been any decent non-corporate-crap twitch shooters out? (i.e. Diablo is to Torchlight as Call of Duty is to ???)
