Torchlight II

Was looking at picking up that Dungeons and Dragons that was just released on steam yesterday, didn't realise this was due very soon though.

So will hold out for Torchlight 2 and the 1st was really fun and with the added co-op it can only get better. I wonder if it will run on low spec laptops like the 1st did?

Still need to complete the first one but this is definitely shaping up to be a pretty awesome sequel, may force me to finish the first :D.

The WHOLE point about torchlight was the ease and number of mods. Several of which change the difficultly (from ridiculously easy to truly insanely difficult) and auto-identify items. Also others mods affect the rest of the points you mentioned too.

All in all I loved the game and am really looking forward to the sequel.

Really looking forward to this. The main thing that lacked from the first was multiplayer! Cant wait really. I just hope it doesn't get swept aside by Diablo 3, as i think they deserve to earn the money for putting features in that gamers want!

I think TL2 has enough in it's favour that it will do well agasint D3:

It's on Steam
It's far cheaper
It has LAN
You can play offline
It has no "real money AH" or micro-transactions
It has a lower budget, so less expectation

I will buy both, but TL2 will be out first at a guess and I heard it has Guilds for you and your friends, which appeals to me (essentially an in-game friend list).

The things I hope to see are far, far more variety in armour (in the first game each class had like 5 armour sets re-skinned / modded) and unique items with unique models.

That is where I think D3 will win out in the long term, massive depth.

An update from Travis Baldree on the Torchlight II website informs us that Torchlight II is delayed (thanks Gamer's Hell via Joystiq). Runic Games' action/RPG sequel was announced for release in Spring 2011 before being pushed back to "sometime in 2011," so this indicates we should expect the game next year. While he doesn't specify exactly when, he does say: "The amount of time we need to take it the rest of the way is relatively small," but this probably makes them regret Max Schaefer's comment that Runic would probably release Torchlight 3 before Blizzard releases Diablo III. Here's the statement:
"So... where is Torchlight 2? Didn't you guys say that you were planning to try to release this year?"

Well, yeah. We did - and we made a good run at that. We've come to the realization, however, that getting a game of this scope up to the quality and polish level we want to achieve is going to take a little longer; especially since we want to run a small beta before release to ensure that our launch is smooth.

The first Torchlight was released in record time, but it had plenty of issues that a little more development could have resolved. We didn't have the resources at the time to give Torchlight that treatment. Right at this moment though, we do have those resources for the sequel, and we feel strongly that we should apply them to make this the best game we can make and hopefully one that you'll enjoy and continue to want to play in the future. We've probably had 18 months of full development time on it so far - not excessively long yet, as far as that goes. The amount of time we need to take it the rest of the way is relatively small.

We feel pretty safe in saying that if you enjoyed Torchlight at all, this sequel is superior in every respect. Right now our job is to ensure that the quality level is consistent all the way to the end.

Besides, you're all playing Skyrim right now anyway, aren't you? Or Battlefield 3? Or Uncharted 3? Or Saints Row 3? Or Arkham City? Or Skyward Sword? Or Minecraft? Or Modern Warfare 3? Or Dark Souls? Or Assassin's Creed Revelations?

Those are awesome games. When Torchlight 2 goes live, we want it to be awesome too - all the way through.

grrr

I found the first one enjoyable, but not for long enough. It was too simplified over Sacred / Sacred 2 which are the ARPGs I am used too, and everything felt too repetitive and easy.

And I didnt like the graphics much, though the music was decent.

Will Torchlight II be more like Diablo II where you can explore out of town or will it involve something similar to the mines with many levels.
