So I finally got around to playing Torchlight after owning it since release, and I'm wondering why I've left it so long.. An hour last night, and I was hooked!

I've noticed this game can be modded to hell and back - do you guys recommend any specific mods, or shall I play through a vanilla game first?

I knew you wouldn't last long in terms of playing multiplayer games :p

no fishing mod, champions mod (it makes some mobs sort of elites like in diablo).
I'd have to take a look at what I used, far far too many to name from memory that are worth using.

You can get a little program called Torchleech. It works like the curse client for WoW.
HUGE list of mods and it installs them for you at the touch of a button, also lets you know of possible conflicts that might happen before you even launch the game.

I got really annoyed at torchlight, got stuck in the first dungeon on a bit of scenery and have had to start again, so ive never bothered.

Do the mods make it look much different?

Rocking :)

Have you played Titan Quest? Similar diablo-like style to Torchlight but multiplayer.

I had a quick look, though I like the art direction of Torchlight more - it'd be great as a MP game with huge bosses though, so I'll check out TQ tonight :)

Yeah, Torchlight looks a lot nicer and is generally a bit more modern. It's a shame that the multiplayer version of it isn't out yet.

Meh, i still don't see how MP could possibly work with the modding scene.

Good thing about Torchleech is once you've downloaded the mods you can just go into them and change things yourself. Game became considerably more playable when you change the duration of 'buff' spells so you aren't having to recast the damn thing all the time on top of things like skill limit mods and the myriad of other options.

Eh?

The current mods are clearly aimed at a single player game. If a multiplayer game came out then I'm sure mods could be built for that and/or support to make it easier to facilitate them.

Obviously the current SP mods aren't going to be particularly suited to the non-existent MP.

Well yes but thats part of the problem. The game is so open to being modded thats its quite easy to not be happy with the way someone else has done it or to just conflict with it. Joining 1 game with a max skill limit increase and then another with vanilla is just 1 of any number of problems since everything is saved locally.

Yeah, makes sense. In a perfect world we'd have some kind of server hosting facility, much like many fps games. Alternatively they'll probably have something diablo-like I guess.

Actually, wasn't the multiplayer version meant to be going mmo-like? It would be a shame if so.

I just started playing this but got a bit stuck straight away (i know im a noob) when u first go into the mine after that guy i find him and go through the mine with him but then i dont know what to do ive even when all the way back out with him and nothing happens, what am i doing wrong?
