Why are we actually trying to reduce the 2500 deaths on our roads? Seriously? A car is a dangerous thing, so are motorikes. Speed camera, driver/pedestrian education - all means exactly squat for £ spent per life saved. You can have SPECS rolled out across the network, the chav's will take their front number plates off and drive stupidly. You can try and educate people but you cannot watch them 24 hours a day.

As an example, in 2007, there were 1207 murders in the UK - around 40% or the number killed on the roads. Murder carries massively higher penalties yet they still happen. Until you get rid oif the general retard from the British population, there will still be deaths. There are c.30 million cars on the road now, accidents will happen. for to long, the government has molly-coddled the British public. Time to grow up ladies and gentlemen and take some responsibility. Don't want to get hurt? Stay at home.

Labour changed it last year I think, hence why a few places like Swindon have started to remove cameras.

Longer ago than that. And councils never got all the money - at best they got half, and only if the cameras were obvious, sign-posted etc. Since about 50% of the fine goes on admin anyway, they really only covered costs.

Now the councils with cameras can get money from a pot, but it is to be spent on road safety - all things, including traffic calming, junction redesign, speed limit changes etc.

Not a dig at you, but goodness me, this is revolutionary.

In the next 50 years they'll probably start using the revenue from road tax to improve roads and transport too...
