Torment: Tides of Numenera Kickstarter

I predict 4.3 million dollars by the end.

It is brilliant. So many oldschool hardcore PC RPGs will be coming out this and next year:

Wasteland 2
Eternity
Shadowrun Returns
Torment
Dead State
Age of Decadence

And I am probably forgetting some.

It's nostalgia for Planescape: Torment, which is still one of the greatest RPGs ever produced. However, Tides of Numenera is not a Planescape game and hence is billed as a "spiritual successor" - though as I'm told Numenera is a sci-fi setting, T:ToN isn't even that. Different setting, different lead writer, different genre, same name. I will be skipping this one.

Whilst i agree - it could be intersting. The main draw for Planescape Torment was the story yeah ok...Colin Mccomb who is on the team for this Torment did story and design work on Planescape.

I think the mistake is calling it Torment...because people will think it will be in the world of Planescape.

On the downside...what have inxile done recently.......

Quite an interesting looking one but they clearly don't need my kickstarter money so I think I'll wait and see how it all turns out :)

Yeah, and like I said, he wrote the least convincing parts (asides from minor work like editing and proofreading). The highlights of the story like Ravel, TTO, Deionarra - that was all Chris Avellone. Though even MCA can put out bad work (Alpha Protocol for example).

A bunch of mobile and XBLA games. Bearing in mind that Fargo started the company the year after leaving Interplay in the clutches of Titus (2002), there's been precious little RPG content produced. Bard's Tale was obviously not a faithful remake either. Wasteland 2 looks decent so far, and that's all I'm backing for now.

+1

The kicker is that I might have backed this if it had been sold on it's own merits and not tied to a game that it has very little to do with.

So Chris Avellone will be doing a bit of work on Torment: Tides of Numa Numa, he'll be writing one of the companions but it doesn't elaborate on if he'll be doing anything more.

There's also been some in-game footage posted to give an idea of what it'll look like (classic isometric RPG essentially):

Yeah I think they have about $500,000 to add to whatever the KS total comes to.

Kickstarter has been the best thing to happen to PC gaming for years! I have backed 3 or 4 titles now and am actually getting really excited about new games for the first time in a long while!
