I was about to order my full build last night but I am contemplating getting the i5 devils canyon bundle and sacrificing the gpu to go into my price range. (Gtx750ti instead of a xfx280 dd).
Both builds (with all components come to around £630.
Am I just being silly or is it viable? Ofcourse i realise I would lose a lot of GPU power where my main aim of this build is for high end gaming.

Regards.

Thank you for the replies.
The one decision im really struggling with is the motherboard choice for my AMD build as the choice is limited and the review etc that I have seen are very mixed.
Any reccomendations?
Can only allocate around £70 for this to make my build around £630.
Regards

Should you go for a higher end AMD board at ~£120, add the cost of the 8320 CPU and you're looking at ~£310, which you can get a 4690k setup for which is better with an R9 280. However you don't have that budget it looks like so the Evo mobo suggested will be fine. VRMs are adequate for basic overclocking

280 with the FX-8320, i run an FX-8350 with a 290, its fine :)

+1 (290 FX8350 except 290x and a 8320)

The Asus Sabretooth can be had for around £112 elsewhere. That's where my money would be going. Can't post links for obvious reasons. But even at the OcUK price I'd still be putting my money there. It is above budget though.

I have the revision 2 Sabertooth board - good quality.

Gigabyte 970a ud3p

There was a chap on here complaining that the VRMs were throttling under prime with his fx-8 at 4.9ghz. He had no such throttling problems in gaming, though.

4.9GHz on a £65 board is great value

That's a great parts list but I think that he's already got the rest and was just looking for the cpu and motherboard.
If not, I'd go for something similar to your suggestion

Thank you for the replies. As per the intel build I have fiddled around and come up with one similar. However, I should have stated above an OS is required which I believe would take me above budget.
Looking at the build above though I could sacrifice the SSD . Sell the Free kingston and that build would be in budget.
Ah decisions : / .

To be honest though. In the future I would probably take the AM3+ motherboard and processor out and replace them with Intel versions as the CPU starts to age. So I wouldn't mind going with the AMD build for now as this will be entirely adequate in games I believe.
Regards.
