Hi,

My parents decided to get me some dollars as a Christmas present for an upcoming trip to America, nice gesture I thought.

Anyway, my Mam decided to wrap them up in cracker style (so I didn't know what it was until I opened it as they were rolled into a cylinder shape) - bad idea.

I just started ripping the wrapping off without even thinking and subsequently put 2-3 inch tears into the best part of $500 :o

Now they're not totally ripped into two, just have tears in them (some larger than others).

What I want to know is will I be able to spend them over there without any problems? Am I better off taking them to the bank/post office to swap them or just tape them up as you would notes over here?

Cheers for any advice. Oh and yes... I am aware I'm an idiot :D

I dare say... it is your mother who is the fool!

I reckon it would be best to change them at a bank or something.

hah, I wasn't best pleased with the choice of wrapping. Most people would have just put them in an envelope!

Probably best to try and get them changed over here rather than risking it until I get out there I think! Cheers.

I think banks just exchange them for new notes don't they? So long as you've got all of the note, just to take them out of circulation :)
