I'm travelling to Torquay in December to visit a friend for his 70th birthday party. Is there anything to do in Torquay in December or should I just fly in (to Exeter), attend the party, and fly back out?

And what is the recommended route for getting to Torquay from Exeter Airport?

Travelling is easy, A30 > M5 > A38 > A380 will take you straight in, if you’re hiring a car. As for attractions, it depends what floats your boat really, Kents Cavern is cool along with Babbacombe if you’re into those sort of things. Check out Brixham and Dartmouth as well. The heritage railway from Paignton is also good.

I did it in the winter once and found it to be pretty grim. Everything closed other than the town museum which was a waste of space.

Mind you, Exeter is a decent city and there are plenty of nice and interesting places around Devon, so I wouldn't give up on the whole idea.

yes - Isn't the train journey itself fun - Dawlish, and maybe others.

I actually looked at taking the train all the way - it's a direct line from Aberdeen to Exeter - but it's stupendously expensive. Even cattle class is much more than flying.

Get yourself over to Buckfast Abbey and see the birthplace of one of Scotlands favourite drink :D
Tbh there's not much going for torquay out of season, but as someone else mentioned Exeter is a nice place to visit, the cathedral is rather good if your into that sort of thing.

Stayed in a Travelodge in Torquay in February. 3 nights for £112 which we thought was cheap for a change of scene. Won’t be going back
It had a “cheap place to house those on benefits” vibe. Plenty of apparently unemployed hanging around. Lots of tattoos and weed about

Go a couple of miles out of Torquay and it’s lovely
