Torres out for the rest of the season

Why's that likely? The talk is he'll be out for 6 weeks and Spains first game is over 8 weeks away.

For a start, unlike if it was with us, Spain won't give it a 2nd thought about taking a chance on him if he's not 100%; it was the same with the likes of Rooney, Owen and Beckham with England, had it been for their clubs none of them would have played but national sides don't care about risking players. And secondly, even if Torres were to miss the opening couple of group games, you'd imagine Spain would still take him for the knock out rounds on the basis that they should qualify from their group with ease without him.

Be a miracle if he is actually fit for the WC, and whatever it does for Utd's title hopes its best for the player (whether it should have been done before now is another story of course) he wont leave liverpool anytime soon (at least one season in Euro league at worst) and I cant see him leaving for any EPL based team EVER

Good luck to him with Spanish team (although after BM targeting Rooney I wouldnt bet on Torres's knee -even post surgery - being targeted if he is played in WC)

By BM I assume you meant to write RM and the chances of Torres signing for Atletico Madrids rivals are slim.

City did the same thing, look at the foul that led to Rooney feigning injury and De Jong getting a yellow. He stamps on his weak ankle and Rooney hits the deck. Frankly I don't blame him if he's being clearly targeted.

I just figured that he wouldnt walk into a world cup match 2 weeks after being out for 6 weeks after an operation. But who knows...I am no physio so I cant claim to know for certain. Time will tell.

Torres's cartilage injury is likely to be in the realms of a meniscal tear - keyhole surgery and 6 weeks is more than enough for it to be fully functional. He will prob be put through his paces to keep his fitness up with other forms of cardiovascular work. My guess is he'll might be available for all of spains pre-world cup games.i suspect he will have a few substitute appearences in the group games to get him back into it and will prob start the knockout games with villa

Spain should be able to get to the knock out rounds without Torres anyway - I just wouldnt expect him to be fully fit for the group games was all I was meaning.

(thats if he is fully fit now of course, only because he has had a very bitey season seemingly constantly in and out with niggles and other injuries)

Im sure by knock out rounds he will be raring to go:)

Doesn't really matter any more does it?

They've been (mostly unsuccessfully) chasing a CL spot for months. Highly likely they won't get near it now, and there's an additional worry that they won't make the Europa via the League, meaning they'll have to win it. Without him.
