This is a message from a friend who is having trouble with his Laptop, unfortunately he doesn't have the Internet atm, but he has signed up using my internet, but his account is in the activation process, I can answer any questions, though (:

Hey everyone,
I went out and bought a copy of Windows 7, this morning, I don’t want to lose all my installations or my documents, so I was told to do an Upgrade from Vista. So once I backed everything up, and tried it. When it was checking for Capability, it prompted an error that wouldn’t allow me to continue. It stated that I needed to uninstall two programs; iTunes and Acrobat Reader, and also update an IDE Controller driver. So, I went ahead and removed the programs…but I cannot find the drivers anywhere, I’ve been searching for about two hours now, any drivers that I transfer onto my Laptop seem to be in-compatible.

Time of this report: 5/31/2011, 19:26:15
Machine name: USER-PC
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.101014-0432)

System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
System Model: EQUIUM A200
BIOS: BIOS Version 1.60
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.5GHz
Memory: 2038MB RAM
Page File: 2055MB used, 2256MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 7.00.6002.18107 32bit Unicode

I’ve tried updating my BIOS, no luck, and any drivers that I found, were incompatible. I tried the upgrade again once my BIOS upgrade was complete, this time it was stating that the ROM file size was incomplete.
I tried updating my IDE controller from Windows through Device manager, but got this result:
"Windows could not find driver software for your device" and "windows was unable to install your ASHN4MBN IDE Controller"
But searching for that driver on the internet was inconclusive to say the least. And Toshiba have discontinued the laptop, thus removing the drivers from their website.
I cannot stand Vista any longer, so any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Dom

Thanks guys, sorry that he can't post this :/

Select in order top to bottom
Archived files
Equium (notebooks)
Equium A Series
then look on bottom of laptop for the ID Job done!

Also if you google "Toshiba Equium a200-???" replace the ??? with the correct three digits from the label on the bottom and you will find the correct drivers page with out a problem.

its all about the numbers ;)

Labels are there for good reason and not just to hide the last screw on the casing!

Yeah :P
He's doing a BIOS update, a Chipset update and a a Hardware setup, as I'm not entirely sure what the IDE controller would come under, although I think it should be under BIOS.

I think he's got it working; the BIOS Update seems to have done the trick. I'll post again if something goes wrong.

Thanks, everyone! :D

To be honest doing an upgrade from vista is not worth it, as it will leave so much crap behind. A full install is always better. Just back up all his documents/music/pictures and do a full install by booting from the DVD.

Yeah, but he doesn't have time to go back and reinstall all of the programs he's installed, it's not had a clean install since like 2008, and all the programs that he has he needs, so it would take too much time to go back and reinstall them all.
