Hello All,

I’m thinking of treating myself to a tablet, after doing a bit of research I’m leaning towards the “Toshiba Excite Pro AT10LE-A-108”, it has a micro USB and HDMI out, great screen…the only thing that’s troubling me is I can’t find many reviews etc. anyone have experience of this tablet?

Cheers

I've got one of these tablets for £290 a month ago from a high street PC store.
I think the tegra4 is the fastest chipset atm, making this the fastest tablet you can get. Maybe Acer do one too? The nexus 10 is only dual core with no HDMI either.
Nice screen 2516*1536 I think.

I'm replying on the tab here and its replaced the laptop for sofa based browsing.
Going against the tab, it can't be rooted as of yet due to sealime, so you're at the mercy of Toshiba & os 4.2.1. Tho Toshiba do regulate updates.
I got a USB 'to go' dongle and the 360 pad, mouse, keyboard and USB flash keys all work.
The HDMI output works nice too and outputs a second display to the TV resolution as well as keeping full resolution on the tablet.

Here is a video I made showing its gaming performance...

Got one from PC World for £165 (after cashback) a few days ago. I dont think anything can come close for that amount of money. I am keeping it wrapped up for xmas though as a treat for myself :D I will let you know what I think of it after xmas!

I think originally they were over £400. BTW, day 1 it will want to update the whole OS to jb 4.2.1.
Yeah, I also found PC world cheaper than online.
I'm confused as to why its now cheaper than slower tablets.
Reviews don't like its weight, thickness or how hot it gets, but what do you expect for a fast tablet.
Can anyone find the 3d speeds? Best I found was 2.6gpixels compared to 4 on ps3 & 6 on 360.
Although running intense 3d for extended periods will drain the battery much faster & the top left corner gets rather warm.
Just been using mine for the assassin's creed companion app & the battery lasts for hours. Although the market didn't allow it for the tab so I copied the install from my phone.

I find the camera a bit slow and grainy, but don't take many pics on it.
There is a proper case for it but I got a generic case & cut out a hole for the camera.

I was thinking of getting one, as ~£160 sounded too good for Tegra 4, but after reading reviews - nope. Most of the reviews were made when this retailed for £400, so I ignored the negatives about cost, but questionable support, choppiness and thermal issues put me off.

According to many, the updates have fixed the thermal throttling issues. Many people on hotukdeals say theirs is great and doesn't suffer from any of the issues brought up in the reviews.

Anything else with this spec costs more than double the price!

At £350 I wouldn't have been interested at all, but £165 is an absolute steal for the spec.

you can't fix overheating by simple update.

that's like Intel issuing software update to cure high Ivy or Haswell temps. it's design flaw.

it's ok-ish price if you can live with its negatives. most people on HUKD are clueless when it comes to tech, so take their comments with pinch of salt.

"I was browsing on facebook for 3 minutes and it didn't throttle, hooray"

Got our one two days ago. I have to say its a bargain, the screen is lovely even sharper than the tablet Z. I have tried three or four 30 minute runs to get it to throttle and havent been able to yet, it does get warm but not uncomfortable. That said they are not mega demanding games but my lad wont be playing much demanding stuff on it so its perfect for him.

I played with this and the Samsung Note 10.1 2014 together in Curry's. And I have to say I noticed the speed difference. The Samsung give a far better and snappier experience. Screen is better too and the whole thing just feels smoother. No matter the price of the tablet, It's going to irk me if I sit there and it lags like crazy.

I missed out on the cash back so i'll wait for the inevitable post-Christmas price drop on the Samsung

I had a good play with it in store before picking it up and it didn't lag at all, and felt just as fast and snappy as any of the other tablets there.

Maybe some stores haven't updated theirs?

I found the stock launcher a bit stuttery on this tab, maybe it does not like the unusually high resolution.
I've tried a few launchers and Nova is quite smooth, maybe it uses 3D?
What screen resolution is the Samsung Note? Also I'd guess the Samsung has better software updates with the bods at Samsung trying to optimise it more than Toshiba.
I don't think any Samsung is as quick as this tablet.
I also find the stock browser to be very smooth with scrolling down a long blog like this page to be totally smooth, but Chrome browser stutters and even blurs the text when scrolling as though its designed for a slower device.

Maybe this example will put the tablet into perspective...
My 'gaming' friend wanted to buy his lady a tablet for Xmas to play candy crush and browse eBay etc. so I advised him to get her a Samsung. Even though when I showed him the Toshiba running a fps with a 360 pad he was blown away, his lady won't be playing fps games or appreciate the speed on tap, instead she'll more appreciate the sleek lines and brand name of the Samsung.

I'm very sensitive when it comes to computer speed, always have been. I notice when a desktop or laptop is a bit slow and something is wrong and people around me just look confused as if I was rain man or something.

What screen resolution is the Samsung Note?

Same as the Toshiba, 2560 x 1600

I'm not sure about that, the Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition is a beast and the experience says otherwise.

http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/tablets/samsung-galaxy-note-101-2013.aspx

During the Quadrant benchmark, which measures which tests the CPU, I/O and 3D graphics performance, the Note scored 19,523. That's more than four times the 4,146 category average. The Toshiba Excite Write and its Nvidia Tegra 4 CPU were a distant second with 11,892. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z's 1.5-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip notched 7,513.

I also find the stock browser to be very smooth with scrolling down a long blog like this page to be totally smooth, but Chrome browser stutters and even blurs the text when scrolling as though its designed for a slower device.

Which doesn't happen on the Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition, I spent a good while on it.

All well and good but I'm going to be pushing the tablet hard when I get mine

it isn't.

at £165 it's ok-ish if you can live with its negatives. only a fool would pay £270. You can get Nexus 10 /almost refurb iPad 4, or iPad mini retina for that money.
