Toslink and 5.1

It's an old surround (no Hd sound )
Does have Dolby 5.1

I will be buying new later In te year
But what cable will I be using to connect it and how ? Is the question

I will be buying 5.1 with hd audio but not sure what/ how I connect to my pc
I'm getting a new sound card too

I'm currently doing the same thing, I've got an old AV receiver, about 10 years old or so, I connect to it from my PC using a toslink cable. Just pick up a cheap one on eBay for a few £.

what 5.1 system is it, some like my yammy have inputs for a separate decoder so i can connect the speaker outs on pc soundcard/mobo to the amps inputs

5.1 is an old goodmans but its quite good if set right
My output on my pc for sound are optical out, coaxial and hdmi on the graphics card

My 5.1 has coaxial in, RCA left and right in

If I get a new sound card, (not chosen yet) and a new 5.1 what would be the bet way to connect?
Via what cable?

I don't want to go down the seperate amp route.

Yeah, video will be done via hdmi from graphics card to then
Digital out from sound card to surround sound then

Thanks fellas I think il go for that set up
