Totally locked out of computer!!!!

Ok guys heres the update,

Tried to do a repair tonight, the first time I followed through the process it continuously failed to locate files from the ccd during the "Setup is copying required files to the hard disk" stage, so I rebooted and tried again.

Second time lucky it got through the copying setup files to hard drive and rebooted and began the repair installation, however with 34minutes to go and during the "installing devices" stage I got a BSOD and it promptly restarted, I ran memtest86 on it for 30mins and found no problems, (i know it needs longer to be certain of any errors but I was pushed for time)

So i thought I'd give it another go at repairing, exactly the same time it BSOD'd and rebooted. So I have attached the HDD to my pc to recover the documents on it, does this sound like a faulty HDD??

Whilst I can recover files from the HDD I do not like the "can't repair appearence" and so everything in my eyes points towards a faulty HDD. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :D

thanks again for your help so far....

Sounds as if it could be RAM related also, I done a few installs where I get install probs and its mainly down to RAM, if you have two sticks, try taking out one and using the 1, if same happens again, try the other one, to eliminate possibilties.

Well now I'm really confused!! I ran a Western Digital Diag. application on the HDD and it passed successfully so I thought whislt the drive was in my PC i would use Acronis and back up the entire drive for if and when i format it. Acronis refuses to backup stating the drive contains bad sectors, it does not matter which of the four partitions I chose to back up it fails!

If Acronis is reporting bad sectors then the earlier post about bad memory is almost certainly the cause. If WD diag says the drive is ok, then it also points to the ram. In my experience bad sectors are nearly always caused by dodgy ram or incorrect ram settings, which in turn corrupt the data on the hd.

Well people heres the latest,

following yesterdays disappointing events I ran memtest86 to run last night and windows memory tester today, neither found any errors with the memory. So i thought i'd try and backup the drives again and this time acronis works and is currently backing up the drives.

Is it possible the BSOD during the repair is because the current install is too corrupted to be repaired? I am going to try a fresh install in a minute and see how it goes. Are there any applications I can use once its all installed to test the system?

If you chkdsk /R on the problem drive it will locate any bad sectors.

You can use speedfan do read S.M.A.R.T data from the drive also.
